ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- In some circles in the Virgin Islands, good governance only applies to locals but appears never to the Governor and his office or even the UK Police Commissioner (CoP) Mark Collins.

Word reaching our newsroom from senior sources within the Governor’s Office familiar with this matter is that the Police Service Commission (PSC) has rejected the renewal of a contract for the handpicked Assistant Commissioner of Police UK National Pam Trevillion. This decision was endorsed by the National Security Council (NSC), as there are many current senior police officers more qualified than Ms Trevillion and can do the job.

My way or the highway- Governor Pruce

However, Governor Daniel Pruce has come to her rescue and overridden both the PSC and the NSC and granted Ms Trevillion a six-month extension on her contract. It is unclear what special skills she has brought to the force as many lower-ranking officers have alleged she has caused a lot of confusion in the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force and she has clashed with many officers as they alleged “she doesn't know how to speak to people”.

It is also reported that because none of the UK Nationals who applied for the CoP's post did not make the cut to replace the controversial and embattled CoP Mark Collins, Governor Pruce has halted the recruitment process and demanded that all who applied must re-apply again.

Many have claimed this is an attempt to ensure many qualified locals do not get the post including Acting Commissioner Ms Jacqueline E. Vanterpool.

Under investigation?

Meanwhile, a Deputy Commissioner of Police is under investigation over what they claimed to be a lack of communication during a police drill and simulation exercise at Fish Bay on Tortola. It is alleged that the Deputy in question did not communicate to the relevant senior officers about the exercise and the police tactical unit that carries firearms went to the scene with guns believing it to be a real situation.

While the lack of communication is serious and could have caused lives, others see it as an attempt to keep out that Deputy Commissioner, who has applied for the CoP post, from being seriously considered.

Residents continue to be concerned about law and order in the British Overseas Territory of the Virgin Islands under CoP Collins and have accused him of having a target list aided by governors and UK police officers of residents who are outspoken and have challenged police injustice, brutality and double standards for arresting and charging persons often with bogus allegations in an attempt to damage their reputation and integrity.

Are you on the target list?

They have gone after current elected officials, heads of departments, other civil servants, police officers and even private citizens, claiming they are corrupt. Mr Collins himself faced some 55 allegations of corruption and violations of rights from his own police officers and is expected to demit office on December 1, 2024.

When the Governor's Office was contacted for comment on November 18, 2024, we were told the Governor was out of the territory and his response could be delayed.

UK police are absolutely useless at fighting real crime, just google the UK success rate in solving robberies, rapes, murders in the UK, its abysmal. The reason is the head woke honchos are more concerned about your social media post possibly hurting some snow flakes feelings and god forbid if you misgender someone, its off with your head. Find a local Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner and Chief of Police. Commissioner Fraser did an outstanding job.

The importation if crime by these BVI is ongoing and with much determination. We go directly to the source and import the evil followed up with installation and harvest while thwarting and rejecting effort and tools that would be effective in a seize and desist. It's comical the efforts at keeping crime alive and pretending otherwise. A parody of sorts played out on the world stage and visible by those not too blind to see. Sadly, the whole region is disaffected via the pseudo Christian pretense of these VI. The World is watching and so is Our Father In Heaven.

What's the point of bringing people from the UK here to solve our crime when they can't even fix theirs. Those resources would be better used to train and equip the officers that are here rather than those that will leave with the knowledge and training they have gained at our expense.

If something happens it is the same useless cops from the UK and the USVI that you are going to call to protect your A..es since the BVI is open ducks sitting in a pond waiting to get picked off. For a place that don’t have any proper protection in place to protect the citizens you sound like a real fool.

It is the job of the PSC and NSC to ‘advise’ the Governor. It is not either bodies responsibility to appoint any senior officer's, they can only make recommendations. If the Governor chooses to take a different route that is his decision and there are no rules broken here. He is acting in line with his constitutional responsibilities.

There are no local officers anywhere close to the CoP job. The most senior local officer could not even pass the Senior Command Course, one of many senior management courses that ACP Trevillion has on her resume.

It makes no good sense of continuing critical badmouthing Gov. Daniel Price of what some may perceived as racist judgements, but give your approval or stay silent when your favorite party continuing making judgements that contradicts good governance for the majority of the people of the British Virgin Islands.

Humans are not perfect creatures. Why demands of others that which you are not hypocrite?
Now that approximately two weeks of heavy rain showers have felled on the BVI in this November Month, or regular daily traffic roads are further ragged, gagged and dugged, plus additional potholes BVI wide. Criticize that instead.

AC Trevillion is excellent, qualified and very much needed here in our Territory.
DC Vanterpool is a great person and a dedicated law enforcement officer.
The Gov is within his rights to make the decision, upon receipt of advice. He's done so. Let's let everybody get back to work.
We need a strong, qualified and capable Commissioner who is full of integrity. I don't care what passport they carry - we have problems we need leadership to solve (from gangs to financial crime).

You are either completely clueless or the direct decendant of a house slave.
You need to ask, why is Trevillion so determined to stay here. Why doesn't she want to return to her home country.
She is so qualified but yet going to training courses that should be reserved for those that now need the training but then would say they donate qualified persons to do a certain job so they need to bring another officer from the UK. And the beat goes on....
How does she expect to manage grown men and women but every time something doesn't go her way, she is crying like a child and ready to throw a tantrum.
And of course the governor is there for her to run to because as we all know they look out for each other.
And the public really needs to keep a close eye on this governor. People don't have a clue of all that's going on.

But at the same time our ancestors were slaves. If we dont exercise the right to speak up then its as if we forgot all the struggle and oppression over four hundred years long. Speak up and dont be afraid no one is going to whip or pour boiling water in your mouth. Those days are over but still the people choose to be silent. All the racist back and forth is justified until there is an apology for slavery.

By no apologizing the UK institution & thus the non-elected governor god or bad man he may be, is looking very fishy as the perpetrators of those centuries of crimes against humanity should surely come to an apology history considered. Instead they continue with an arrogant colonial behavior pattern.

We are the villains when its pointed out... wait they havent apologized and want to dictate? Thus we are still under racist oppression.

Colonialism is akin to a disease causing agent buried deep into the frozen caucasoid mountain but due to climate change has been exposed and is afflicting and taking a told on animals living in the area. Colonialism is resurfacing in the VI and other OTs; colonialists bolted from the VI in the 1800s, casting it as only useful as a bird sanctuary. With the colonialists bolted, the signature ‘ rugged individualism’ of Virgin Islanders persevered, bringing the VI to having one of the highest standards of living, quality of living, per capita income, human development index, etc. in the region. What is causing colonialism to reemerge ( it never left totally) in the VI? Is it opportunity, etc.?

Colonialism has always been about exclusion, racial superiority, control, power, might is right/white is right, etc.,The colonialists have always treated natives/locals as the other, less than, etc. They cast themselves as the upper class and the less than locals/ natives , especially blacks as the underclass. The locals/natives of the conquered and colonized lands, lands and labour were exploited and expropriated through dehumanization , abuse, etc.

The UK-appointed governor is a whale in small pond, wielding unilateral power. The UK is the administering power for the VI tasked by the UN in 1946 with responsibility for guiding towards a full measure of self-governance. The VI is supposed to have local self-governance, but that is in name only; it is a mirage. The UK wields unilateral power with any devolve powers, ie, constitution, etc can be easily reversed. For example, the VI constitution is currently suspended albeit being held in abeyance. All UK-appointed governors are despatched on a mission with specific orders to control the subjects. Some are brash and others are snakes in the grass. Locals play a key control in helping governors accomplish his/her ( well there has never been a woman or minority UK rep) mission, through their disunity, division , appeasement, etc.Guv Pruce handling of CoP recruitment shows his total disrespect for the VI and its people, demonstrating his unilateral power, cavalier attitude, ie, I put my thumb on the scale so what, what can you do about it???? The subjects are beneath him so he didn’t have an obligation to tell them why he suspended the CoP recruitment, for supposedly there were no qualified UK nationals on the short list and I force feed the process to ensure applicants are on the short list. The VI and other OTs must understand that they are territories which belong to the UK but they are not part of the UK; they are subjects . The UK tells subjects what the deal is , not ask them.

@Stealth, you went deep to make your point with the reference and example of the Caucasoid Mountain. But where the hell is the Caucasoid Mountain? Is this some subtle message? The chapter and verse on colonialism have not changed; it remains the same from its genesis through today. Why would it, for it was not forced to change? One of its key practices, ie, division, is still very active. Superiority is still a vital practice and weapon in its arsenal. They have forced been forced only to pay lip service superb, for they know subjects don’t have memories like elephants and are only interested in fighting among themselves, being that colonialists have their backs. They keep getting their hands burn on the hot stove/coal pot but keep on touching it. When will we ever long?

Our local candidates can’t be trusted in this role - our public officials have proven time and time again that corruption is deeply rooted in the way things are done here and they continue to grease palms, look after their friends and waste public funds. What can the governor accomplish with another one of these fools, he needs an ally with integrity that he can trust.
