‘Investigation into ESHS Wall continues’- CoP Matthews
The Auditor General (AG) Ms Sonia M. Webster in a bombshell report on the ESHS wall had said that the wall project broke financial laws, there was no value for money and persons were paid and work not completed. She also listed a tail of corruption surrounding the entire project.
In turn, Mr Walwyn broke protocol and leaked the AG’s report to the media in a failed attempt to defend himself, while bashing the Auditor General. He later met the wrath of Governor of the VI, His Excellency Augustus J. U. Jaspert who later demanded an apology and forwarded the report to the police for further investigation according to a statement released on Friday, December 14, 2018.
No stopping now
Police Commissioner Michael B. Matthews in confirming that the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) had the AG’s report said that they had started a “scoping excise.” However, speaking to our newsroom yesterday Monday, March 4, 2019, when asked if the investigation will now end following the defeat of Mr Wawlyn, Mr Mathews responded, “any investigation by the police does not halt until it’s been fully investigated and resolved.”
When pressed as to the stage of the investigation and if an arrest or indictment was imminent the top CoP refused to comment further.
BVI Airways Audit launched
Meanwhile, there is also an ongoing audit over the $7.2 M that vanished over a BVI Airways deal—another National Democratic Party (NDP 1) scandal—where the Territory has no plane, no flights and no one accountable as to the status.
