THE SETTLEMENT, Anegada, VI – Minister for Communications and Works Hon Kye M. Rymer (R7) has called the reintroduction of international flights at the Captain Auguste George International Airport on Anegada, a testament to the government's commitment to revitalizing the local economy.

Hon Rymer's comments came as part of a press release on the flights resuming on the island, where he added that the Government of the Virgin Islands is unwavering in its dedication to maintaining the highest standards of aviation safety and regulation to ensure a smooth and secure travel experience for all passengers.

“This initiative not only highlights our dedication to expanding air connectivity but also underscores our commitment to fostering economic growth in the Virgin Islands.”

On March 23, 2024, the airport welcomed international flights from San Juan and St. Thomas facilitated by Fly BVI and Island Birds, two locally owned and operated charter companies.

Resumption a significant milestone - Hon Rymer

The minister said this significant milestone not only enhances connectivity and accessibility for visitors to the neighbouring island but also underscores the Government's dedication to bolstering tourism across the sister islands.

“The inclusion of foreign flights into Anegada signifies a strategic move to showcase the natural beauty and warm hospitality of the island, thereby attracting more visitors.” He added that granting access to international aircraft from key hubs like San Juan, St. Thomas, and St. Martin, opens new opportunities for the local businesses on Anegada to thrive,” he added.

Since taking office, the Wheatley Administration has embarked on a commitment to boost tourism and the economy through the diversification of the local tourism industry through a planned airport expansion project, more tourism events and activities and the building of more accommodation facilities like hotels and resorts.

Ianthiabthe aamenGovenrment that saw the airport being shut down. Are we not just back where we were following a huge gap in "our commitment to fostering economic growth in the Virgin Islands". Which gets back the "connectivity and accessibility for visitors to the neighbouring island" that the VIP neglected andnloat. It also "underscores the Government's (lack of) dedication to
bolstering tourism across the sister islands. Are they in this Government really so stupid that they think they added something. Or they just think we stupid to believe it?

Didn't know they having flight from Miami to Anegada. Wow. I know the categories are local, regional and International base on run way and airport ability and capability to accommodate. Anegada large. Big up.

Stupes, the airport was closed to international flights because the immigration officers refused to work in such an unhealthy environment i.e. mold in the airport.
