Intl eyes are on VI runway models – Mr Alva L. Page
Mr. Page spent several hours last evening taking more than 25 young men and women through the paces as they were selected at team BVI to blaze the runway at U.P.’s Cineplex on Saturday July 26, 2014 where the feature of the night will be the Global Glamour runway fashion show.
But while he has noted their vast potential for upward mobility in the industry, he said that more than anything he is very keen on ensuring that they develop grace on the inside. “I see a lot of determination, I see a lot of people that are eager and I see a lot of models here that want this so in general what I see is a lot of potential, potential, potential and they got it,” Page told this news site.
He said that his method of coaching models is focusing on the internal, “…because I can fix the external but the internal is more about motivating them, building their self-esteem, their confidence because sometimes they see others or previous models and they kind of get intimidated,” he noted.
As to where they can go from the locally produced international event Mr Page said that social media is a very big and key thing in deciding their destiny.
“You can always find agencies, casting directors are looking at them, the sky is the limit,” he stressed.
He said that he was delighted to have seen some of the VI models on the runway at the New York Fashion week last year.
Page worked with the models as a group and was very patient in working with those who needed individual attention to up their game. “Everyone that was selected this year is really great but some had previous experience while for others it’s a new dream coming through so I work with the latter on a one-on-one basis and in very short time I have watch them grow into it at a click of a finger.”
A candid meeting with the internationally praised Prince of the Runway, Martin Snaric persuaded him to tap into his hidden talents and pursue a career in coaching. With more than 15 yrs of runway experience, Alva said he is more comfortable on the runway than he is on city sidewalks. Working with agencies like Red Model Management, Ford Models, IMG Models & hosting a featured segment for Univision, Inc. on the influences of trends in fashion, have further cemented Alva’s place in the bustling runway industry.
Alva has excelled as a runway coach; choosing to work with leading agencies, fashion forward designers and highly motivated individuals. Alva’s method of runway coaching and training is edgy and fresh. He embraces the individuality of every model’s unique form and teaches each to create a signature walk that respects the art and pageantry of true runway style. Through Alva’s coaching and training, models & model hopefuls have achieved notable career milestones. Alva has been featured on TV Land’s She Got That Look, MTV Made, VH1 and BET Rip the Runway.
He is also a Runway Coach for the Banana Republic Fashion Show benefiting Make A Wish Foundation and Host of the Alva Page’s Red Carpet @ the Carolina Music Awards.
