Inter Primary School Championships cancelled
The announcement came as a surprise to many of the Teachers, especially as some were already planning to hold their own sports days, but will open the door for other Sports Organisations such as the Sea Cows Bay Basketball Club and the local Football Association.
“The time taken and costs involved were all considered before the decision was made,” commented the Acting Chief Education Officer (CEO) of the Department of Education, Ms Connie E. George.
“Schools will all be able to hold their own Sports Day, but for 2018, there will be no Inter Primary Sports Days.”
Filling the void
Other sports will be readily filling the void, including the BVI Football Association’s Primary School Leagues, the BVI Cricket Associations Kiddy Cricket Programme, the Little League Baseball League and Basketball spearheaded by the Sea Cows Bay Basketball Club.
High schools will also be able to host their Sports Days as well as utilise programmes provided by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sorts as requested by the Minister of Education, Hon Myron V. Walwyn.
The Director of the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports and her team will visit the Elmore Stoutt High School to register students for the programme during the week of November 6, 2017. Areas for the creative learning programme will include: martial arts, community service, podcasting, speech, drama, softball and baseball, flag football, basketball, information technology, academics, art, painting and dance.
