‘Indisputable fact’ that Chief Inspector Robin is a signatory to petition - PWA Secretary
“It is an indisputable fact that Chief Inspector Dean Robin is a signatory to the petition and expressed his support for the removal of the Commissioner and an independent investigation into several issues. The deliberate suppression of the facts from your knowledge is a travesty and a dishonor to the position and rank that he now holds,” Mr McCall said in a December 18, 2023, letter to the Governor seen by our newsroom.
The Sergeant added that it only confirms the statement laid out in the petition that the “force has a chronic infestation of his double standards, favoritism, nepotism, and cronyism that is almost irrepressible”.
In a letter on December 13, 2023, addressed to Governor John J. Rankin, Mr Robin has essentially distanced himself from the petition and its 55 allegations for the removal of the Commissioner of Police, despite reportedly signing it.
Sergeant McCall in his letter said the 'deceitfulness and the lack of principle' have now brought the credibility and integrity of the Chief Inspector into question and have brought the noble institution of the PWA into disrepute.
“It was brought to my attention, and I verily believe it to be true that since the petition was delivered to the office of the Governor, the Commissioner of Police Mark Collins contacted the Chairman of the PWA and as a result, influenced the pen of the Chairman who wrote to you and discredited the office of the Chairman of the PWA,” he further alleged in a 10-page rebuttal.
Heated police internal politics?
Since the launch of the petition, Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) reached out to the Top Cop for comments however, no response was ever provided.
Mr McCall added, “The essence of the petition is the double standards, and lack of transparency which the Chairman said was unfounded but conceded in his conclusion that there is a need for greater transparency for certain processes. This again is evidenced when the petition stated... ‘force has a chronic infestation of his double standards, favoritism, nepotism, and cronyism that is almost irrepressible’.”
The letter further said, “Chief Inspector Robin a senior police officer signed the petition. It is rather troubling, disingenuous, and unethical that he is now claiming that the petition that he read, signed, and verbally supported but since his communication with the Commissioner has a myriad of unfounded allegations. The Chief Inspector has discredited himself and disgraced the institution of the PWA and cannot be well placed to comment on ethics and leadership truthfully and objectively.”
Efforts to reach Mr Robin for comment were unsuccessful.
Our news centre will bring more details as they become available.
