‘I’m not too concerned about’ Governor’s extension- Premier

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) revealed that he was not consulted about the one year extension to Governor Daniel Pruce’s term in the Virgin Islands; however, he is not concerned.

On September 11, 2026, Governor Pruce announced that his tenure as Governor was being extended, which means he will be in office until January 2028. He called it “great news” that he was “absolutely delighted” about. 

I’m not too concerned about that- Premier 

During a press conference on Friday, September 18, 2026, the premier was asked whether or not he was consulted prior to Governor Pruce’s term extension, to which he replied that he was not. 

“That was something between Governor Pruce and the FCDO.”

Dr Wheatley said ultimately, “we want more power and authority for the elected government”.

This, he added, is consistent with what the United Kingdom’s new Prime Minister Andrew M. Burnham has spoken about regarding his principle of devolution. 

“If we have the authority and the power in the areas we are seeking it, it wouldn’t trouble me, so to speak, how long a Governor stays…I’m not too concerned about that really. My main concern is us maturing our constitutional relationship and placing more authority in the hands of our elected government, which is called democracy.”

With Governor Pruce’s extension, he will be in office when the next general election is called.

      The Governor is not racist but from what I keep reading some locals are.
      And our local government has no regards to any citizens, just look around how our beautiful BVI is being treated and "developed"

    You certainly shouldn't be concerned about the governor's one-more-year extension, that was the UK'S government decision, not yours and us, but you should be extremely concerned about your ineffective representation of accomplishing your political duties promised to the people of the British Virgin Islands, especially the 7th district voters.about direlect vehicles, filty sewer water running daily in the regular traffic roads, and more...., Premier. Oh!, and other districts, too, 1, 2, 3, 4 ,5,,6, 8, and 9th.

    The Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office didn’t consult the local government when Governor Daniel Pruce was transferred from being Governor of Bermuda to replace controversial governor Augustus JU Jaspert as Governor of the Virgin Islands, so why would Premier be consulted now. The UK-appointed Governor represents the crown, not the people of the VIrgin Islands. Colonialism still rules in the 21st Century. The UK see no need to consult with the people about selecting/appointing a governor who bears the title of Governor of the Virgin Islands yet the people have no say in who will represent them. The people are still seen as Subjects, an underclass. The BVI is touted as being self-governing but that is a facade, a mirage , etc; the UK- appointed Governor weilds unilateral power and even devolve functions can be easily reversed, ie, suspending the constitution, etc..Serving as governor of the BVI is a pre-retirement tropical vacation for white Britons. The BVI taxpayers fund the cost for their tropical vacation, ie, board, lodging, food, telecommunications, entertainment, transportation, travel, etc. It is a crusading situation, ie, the people of the BVI is paying to be ruled.

      Correction: Daniel Pruce replaced John Rankin , not Augustus JU Jaspert who preceded Rankin.

      Naw, mehn. His expression shows someone who is stressed out, worried and have to inkling of what his next move should be. He over there looking robotic as if a pupet master is pulling his strings. Governor has no time to play Checkers when presumably they prefer Chess. Premier needs to go sit down, rest himself before his mindless overthinking takes him to a point of no return.
      Then again, my 3 year old said Pappy, he look like he needs to doo doo fast. Sorry, i had to include that lil joke. More often than not, children are correct in their observation. Premier, are you constipated? Lol!

    The Governor loves it here, nice and quiet, he take his walk in the morning no worries, he stop by beans get his special coffee...Drive arond in AC don?t have to deal with the heat and water issues and high electricify bill like most of us..Don' t have to worry about shovelling snow from his front door and his yard to get outside...If staying means ignoring the corruption and obnormalities..It worth it..

    The line between FCDO and UK-appointed Governor is blurred beyond recognition. Hell, there is no line , no daylight. It is might is right, white is right, eh.! Subjects, boys know your place, behave yourselves. Fix yu self, know your place.
