Illegal plane landing on Anegada being investigated- Governor Rankin
This is according to Governor John J. Rankin, CMG, who was asked at a press conference today, August 10, 2022, whether he was aware of the “apparent incident” where a low-lying aircraft allegedly landed without authority, broke security protocols, made a collection and departed without authority.
“Yes, I am aware of that report and that reported incident and the matter has been and remains under investigation,” Governor Rankin stated.
Similar incident in May 2021
It was in May 2021 that our newsroom reported about a similar incident, where an Antigua-bound aircraft that departed the Auguste George Airport on Anegada on Friday, May 7, 2021, reportedly went “missing”.
The aircraft, which was said to be privately owned, reportedly had two passengers onboard; a Columbian and a Venezuelan.
It had reportedly departed Anegada around 6:00 am for Antigua.
According to reports, the Control Tower at Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport and at the San Juan International Airport did not pick up the aircraft on their radar.
The Governor’s Office had not responded to our queries at the time.
