VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI – Former legislator and businessman Mr Mark H. Vanterpool has encouraged investors to continue putting money into the [British] Virgin Islands (VI), which he says still has a long way to go but can be built with investments.

Mr Vanterpool, who is the brother of Deputy Premier and Minister for Financial Services, Trade, and Labour Hon Lorna G. Smith (AL), OBE was at the time speaking at the launch of the new Rock Café by Pussers on Virgin Gorda on December 12, 2023.

The local businessman has purchased the popular Rock Cafe on Virgin Gorda and also announced his investment group will be buying Quitos Luxury Inn and Restaurant in Cane Garden Bay.

“I tell everybody, I got out of politics but if the BVI was listed on the NASDAQ, I would invest in the BVI, because I believe in the British Virgin Islands, that we have a long way to go, but we have a good way to go.

“We have an upward way to go and I'm investing now so when we go up I will cash in. So Premier, you have your work cut out for you and your team, but I believe, I want to encourage people, other investors to believe in the BVI, invest in the BVI and I have no problem with competition.”

Rock Cafe is one of several restaurants in Valley, Virgin Gorda.

'I want the airport fixed'- Vanterpool

Meanwhile, Mr Vanterpool says he envisions more restaurants along the "restaurant strip" in Virgin Gorda. “So I feel good about that because I can't eat at one restaurant every night. I can't come here to the Rock [Cafe] every night,” he said while adding that he likes competition.

“So we want to let you know that we're investing in the BVI because we believe in the BVI and we're going to work to make it work right. Minister of Communications and Works, [Hon Kye M. Rymer] I want the airport fixed, extended,” he said.

Mr Vanterpool, through his investment group, purchased Pusser's British West Indies Limited in 2021.

The businessman also owns a chain of One Mart stores in the Virgin Islands.

He is 100% correct. The BVI is a gem and that's why there is an unjustifiable witch hunt to try to take it from us.

Mark is on point but some will not see it so because the island is mainly blacks and the colonial masters aim is to paint us black to the world and have some of our people believing that only once you are UK you are OK and if you are white you are always right.

Too risky, too volatile. Maybe in another 4 - 8 years

Mark is correct. But the BVI is not ready for NASDAQ. To risky. Like you stated perhaps in 4-8 years or longer.

The BVI government , of which Mr Vanterpool was a member, does nothing to encourage outside investment and plenty to discourage it.

I am totally against anyone who wish Hon, Vanterpool bad. I applaud him for the risk he is taking to invest in the Territory. Let's supposed that there is no earthquake in eight years or any adversity in the Territory, then his investment would be eight years ahead of others who wants to start eight years after him. As a businessman, it is better to invest rather than leaving your money in the bank and makes little profit. To invest $100,000.00 in the bank for one year, it would $100.00 profit with the bank. However, if he invests his money in his business, he will make $100.00 interest or profit in one night. Let us look at Road Town Wholesale with so many businesses and no one wish for an earthquake, because they are whites. We need to support our own black people. We forgot who our slaves' masters were.

Clearly, Mark is a successful, savvy and forward looking businessman who is willing to take prudent and sensible risk. The Action Man does wait for things to happen but makes things happen, looking beyond the horizon.

Ok. If the VI/BVI were on the NASDAQ what stock would investors be buying… was the point to assure investors that the VI is ready for FDI? The VI offers great and safe investment opportunities…..

Great infrastructure, including roads, and reliable water supply and 1st world waste water system; topnotched health care system, , top of the heap STEAM education, exemplary social safety net, 1st rate police force, decreasing violent and property crime, speedy trials, two BVI( black and white ), colonialism free zone, diversified economy, etc.

It is truly admirable of the business focus three local Virgin islanders have had and developed over the years. They were young boys growing up on old Main Street dog what boys do, run, play, sit, chat and more.
They were business oriented and focused from a very young age. This comment seeks to highlight Mr. M. Vanterpool, the now business icon, Mr. Vanterpool, the medical infrastructural development icon and Mr. Skelton.
Those men have evolved as business icons holding a significant range of investments, and offering a range of products and services, now our/ the VI people's icon. We celebrate and uplift them for the giants they have become in our life time., and in the economic pillars of the VIslanders..
None wouldn’t understand the above, unless one was young, hung out on Skelton’s, Fonseca and Round the Well corners, pitched marbles, and fished in the mangroves, long before thoughts of a highway was considered. We who have witnessed this transformation of those individuals for self and country fully applaud and embrace their success.
