‘I pray to God all the robbing & killing stop’- Hon Maduro-Caines
On December 19, 2016 during the Third Sitting of the Second Session of the Third House of Assembly, Hon Maduro-Caines asked how the territory got to its present state of crime, while noting, “I pray to God that all the robbing and the killing will stop.”
Hon Maduro-Caines said she longs for a loving community spirit as was displayed in the past. “We are building a little nation to preserve for our children and not for it to be destroyed,” she stated.
According to Hon Maduro-Caines, with the present crime situation, lives are being destroyed but “badness has gone out of style.”
She was supported by Hon Christian who said, “I want to really appeal to the public to support the police in all of their efforts to deter and prevent crime in the territory. Use the tools that are available to us to report any suspicious activity or any activities related to crime, because at the end of the day crime is going to affect every one of us and our livelihood in this territory.”
Who is next?
And with the recent upsurge in armed robberies one radio commentator was forced to publically ask the question on many minds “Who is next?”
Talk show host Doug Wheatley, speaking on the 3D Show on ZBVI 780 AM on December 16, 2016, highlighted some of the criminal activities carried out, including robberies on two gas stations and two shopping establishments.
“And the question on everybody’s minds is who is next. Who is next? I guess since two gas stations have been robbed the gas stations will be on the alert. Two supermarkets have been robbed so I guess supermarkets will be on the alert…but whether or not that will deter the persons from committing those acts, we don’t know, we will have to see…”
According to Mr Wheatley, the police have their hands full; however, the support of the community is also important.

“badness has gone out of style.”
Neither of those things are going to help at the moment. How about saying "if you have any information that could help to solve or prevent a crime, please get in touch with the police or if for any reason you don't feel you can tell the police, tell me."
The community needs to become the first line of defence.
2 Timothy verses 1-3:
But know this, that in the last days
critical times hard to deal with will be here.
For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal,
having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, betrayers, headstrong, puffed up with pride, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God
