‘I live here also’- Hon Wheatley to VG residents
Speaking during a community meeting in Virgin Gorda on Saturday, September 7, 2024, Hon Wheatley was bombarded with questions surrounding what residents termed the lack of proper health care or access to much needed health care on Virgin Gorda.
'I am one of you too'
Residents have been made their unhappiness with the situation regarding health care on the island known especially following the death of Mr Revovion A. Sprauve aka ‘Bucky’ who died after being unable to access health care at the Nurse Iris O’Neal Clinic (NIOC) on August 31, 2024.
“Don’t forget I also live here, this pain is as real for me as anybody else, it’s real,” he said to his constituents.
Hon Wheatley added that plans have been on the books to bring improved health care services to Virgin Gorda for a while.
“I’m going to take the bull by the horns in terms of bringing about the much-needed things, enough money in the budget to actually do the things that need to be done,” he stated.
CoI has taken priority 'unfortunately"
One resident called out the government’s over attentiveness to the implementation of recommendations of Commission of Inquiry (CoI) and lack of attentiveness to the Territory’s residents and their needs.
Hon Wheatley, in response, said: “Unfortunately, we are a bit hamstrung by the CoI but currently we are at the tail end of that.”
The Minister said members of the House of Assembly are working to pass the necessary bills to end the CoI business.
Once that is done, Hon Wheatley said, “We can focus on the things for the people of this country. I’m not making excuses…for the last year and a half we have been labouring with CoI, for the last three months have been intensive and that’s a fact.”

Rishi Sunak lived in the U.K. - did not mean he gave one single, solitary @#$% about the people there. What’s your point?
This is the level of hypocrisy that the public is fed, over and over!
Living there, and the usage of the public facilities there, are two different things, Honourable Wheately!
For if it was you, or any of your family members, you know, that an air ambulance / helicopter, or whatever, would have been on beckon and call, to assist you!
This is the kind of service the general public does not have
AND TO IMAGINE, you've been a representative there, all those years, with no concern, about these things..
And the people still elect you, eh?
Hmmm
your not vocal
your making it know if you are working it.
you should in the news everyday making a push.
but instead you justl live there and seeing everytinng wrong but going along with the flow
Attach a ambulance to every district including operators emt etc. Create jobs for people to enhance the health care.
Infact why waste saying thing because it appears that the UK may very well take us over because it does not seem like we can get it together
