ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI—In an already politically charged atmosphere in the Territory, Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has openly invited each of the members of His Majesty's Loyal Opposition to cross the floor and join his administration.

His comments were delivered in a candid exchange with JTV's reporter Ms Cathy O. Richards—during a March 21, 2025 press conference.

“I invite all of them, every single one of them,” Premier Wheatley declared with a clearly ambiguous fervour, suggesting, “...and perhaps maybe they could be the next Minister of State, who knows?”

He denied, however, any ongoing discussions with opposition members about switching allegiance, and specifically when pressed on whether he had extended any proposition to Second District Representative Hon Melvin M. Turnbull.

“No, I haven’t had any discussions with District 2 in recent times but I invite them to come.”

'Tall man from the 6th' welcomed too

Dr Wheatley went on to directly identify several sitting opposition figures directly, as he declared, “I make a passionate appeal for Honourable [Marlon A.] Penn, Honourable Turnbull…. the tall man from the 6th [Hon Myron V. Walwyn]. I appeal for him to come and join."

The Premier even invited the former Opposition Leader, Honourable Ronnie W. Skelton, "a gentleman of great experience, great knowledge. I'm not sure how well he’s being respected where he is, but I would like for him to come and to join with us because we respect his knowledge and experience.”

Ms Richards quickly seized on the implications of the Premier’s statements, pressing him on whether his ultimate goal was to erase parliamentary opposition altogether, “So then you don’t want an opposition?”

"I’ll talk about that later,” Premier Wheatley quipped.

The Virgin Islands Party (VIP) government is enjoying an 8-seat majority in the House of Assembly, since two Opposition Members crossed the floor.

Sounds so ridiculous. He's on his high horse with an ego trip. Its definitely a dictator speaking. So lets not have an opposition so his stupid mandate can go thru unopposed. People WAKE UP.

Mr Premier just remember your base that held you down during challenging times such as no confidence vote. To listen to a disloyal poster such as this with a personal grievance and axe to grind is what would cost you. It almost did in the past when your so called coalition government was soundly rejected at the polls. People do not like disloyalty , it may not be verbalized but take a lesson from Trump. You leave the dance with the person that you came with. It appears you learned that leason with Hon. Smith, you didnt abandon Hon. Fraser but instead found a place for her . It is that kind of loyal strategy that wil get your agenda executed and your legacy cemented, not being a disingenious disloyal leader that this poster suggests.

Honourable, we know you need all the help you can get, but where will we get checks and balances? How will we know what piddle is being pushed in our Government? Please, we don't need a community where persons are afraid to speak up when things are not being done right. This young VIP party has been trying to do just that. But it is a very, very bad idea. We have enough examples in the world to know that will have dire consequences.

You can't manage yourself but you can manage others? Like you told others, all you wanted was your pension.
