ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Deputy Premier and Minister for Financial Services, Trade, and Labour Honourable Lorna G. Smith (AL) OBE said for local businesses and companies who may have missed the trade mission to Guyana, there is no doubt that another mission will be on its way which will give persons an opportunity to travel to the South American nation to explore investment opportunities.

“For those who missed out? I have no doubt that we will be going back,” Hon Smith said during a press conference on Tuesday, August 15, 2023.

“I mean there was so much that we accomplished in three days and there is a lot more to be done. And so again you know, we will be letting people know when we're going back. Persons will be going back privately but...” she added.

The Deputy Premier further detailed that when the government does decide to return to Guyana, there will be a similar announcement for persons to join.

BVI Finance to issue invites

Meanwhile, a representative from the private sector who was present at the meeting said the invitations came from BVI Finance and was a great opportunity since the company already had a presence in Guyana.

BVI Finance CEO Elise Donovan added that since 2022, persons have been showing interest in opportunities in Guyana given the increase in economic activities, and asking about what BVI Finance would be doing.

“So when the minister decided she was going to lead this delegation… it was a no-brainer,” Ms Donovan added.

Nothing wrong with exploring but be cautious. You don't have to commit to anything until you know what you are getting into. In the meantime you can update us on that 8 million plane deal?

The people of the Virgin Islands did not put you in counsel to keep going to Guyana. The BVI need fixing, there are enough issues here that needs attention and can keep you busy for the next four years. Do the people them work and keep your a$$ out of Guyana.

You can say that again. People of the BVI need to get serious and put pressure on the non-leaders to operate as if they have sense! I am sick of it now.
