‘I did not loot after Hurricane Irma; I can return to VI’- Radio host Gadiethz
Following Hurricane Irma, the powerful category 5 storm that destroyed the Virgin Islands (VI) on September 6, 2017 leaving death, devastation, homelessness and panic in the streets for food and gasoline, social network was ablaze with the accusation that Mr Peart was one of several looters and had fled the Territory.
Never Looted; It’s a fabrication- Gadiethz
Mr Peart made it clear that he “condemns looting” and he is a respectable person and will never be a part of looting. He said he was not engaged in any looting on Tortola following Hurricane Irma.
When asked if a video is produced that shows him looting outside of Bolos Department Store in Road Town, the Fresh Radio Vybz online station host said “it will be a fabrication because I was never involved in any sort of looting.”
He said he left the VI after some seventeen years because of the safety of his 4-year old son, who he is taking care of at this time and that his son’s welfare was at the forefront of his decision to relocate to the United States.
He said if there is a video circulating then he will move things to “the next step and take legal actions,” he said emphatically.
Mr Peart said another lie being circulated is that he cannot return to the Virgin Islands. The popular International Morning Ride Show host said the radio Zrod 103.7 FM, his place of employment, was destroyed in the hurricane and the owners to date have not restored the radio station, so he has no job to return to.
He warned his critics not to be distracted by “foolishness” as he continues moving forward to a higher ground.
How it started; I can return to VI- Paul Peart
Mr Peart said he will continue to be an outspoken voice for justice, and believes the whole thing started when he posted on social network that both the looters and the price gougers should be prosecuted and it seems to have offended “a local official who then fabricated stories” about him looting.
The radio host said he dares anyone to bring forward evidence that he was looting. He said he has also checked with the local police and was told by Police Information Officer Diane L. Drayton “my name is not on any looting list, or am I a suspect for looting".
The Jamaican national, who has lived in the VI for over 17 years, said he holds a valid work permit and a five-year visa and can return to the British Overseas Territory of the VI anytime he chooses, so rumors that he cannot return is just unfounded.
The former barber also stated that he will continue to do positive things and is currently working on some projects through his online radio station to bring the Caribbean people together.
He also mentioned that the apartment he was living in on Tortola lost the roof as a result of the Hurricane.
