‘I did not interfere’- Hon Fahie on VIP At-Large internal elections
The Party Chairman said, “It was a fair and transparent process and talk about my interference is not true.”
“I do not control the nine district committees nor did I tell anyone who to vote for,” he maintained, noting, that all nine candidates had a fair chance.
It was a fair process - Fahie
The fourth Chairman of the main Opposition VIP in addressing the gossip surrounding the results said, “I can’t stop the gossip or tell people to stop, but I can say it was a fair process and I am proud of all the candidates, and the Congress who voted.”
Mr Fahie thanked the people for their prayers in helping to select the four that won, while noting that the five who lost, have pledged to continue working with the party.
However, two delegates from the sixth district had approached Virgin Islands News Online (VINO), complaining that on the day of the vote, December 1, 2018, they were removed from the sixth district delegate list in what they described as “an unfair manner.”
VINO ultimately decided not to peruse the story, since the delegates did not wish for their names to be used.
Willock says time to move on
Businessman and former Permanent Secretary, Julian Willock—one of the nine persons who contested but lost—when asked about Hon Fahie’s statement and the rumours, declined to comment.
He however noted, “We have an election to win come 2019, [and] we have serious national issues to address.”
“Look, the internal election is over," he said, "and of course in a small place you will hear lots of things, some true and others not, however, my focus is on getting the VIP in office,” Mr Willock uttered.
Two other candidates who lost declined to comment and did not return phone calls. Businesswomen and Author, Ms Mitsy J. Ellis-Simpson when contacted said, “I am on my way to New York,” and declined to comment.
Former Managing Director of the BVI Ports Authority, Mr Claude O. Skelton-Cline—another candidate who lost—did not return phone calls when texted on the subject.
The four VIP At-Large candidates elected are former BVI Softball Association President and Businessman Mr Neville A. Smith aka ‘Sheep,’ former Party President and Businessman Mr Carvin Malone, BVI Tourist Board Manager and social activist, Ms Shereen D. Flax-Charles, and Educator, Businesswoman and former Ms BVI, Sharie B. de Castro.
