LONG LOOK, Tortola, VI- As first and accurately reported by Virgin Islands News Online (VINO), former Deputy Premier and Minister for Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration under the ousted National Democratic Party (NDP) Dr Kedrick D. Pickering will be running for political office at the 2023 General Election in the Virgin Islands.

Dr Pickering, who was defeated by the incumbent Seventh District Representative Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley at the February 2019 General Elections, made the official announcement at The Stickett last night, April 6, 2022.

Dr Pickering not running as Independent candidate!

The former D7 Representative; however, did not say whether he will run in the Seventh District or At Large. He also said he was not running as an Independent candidate but stopped short of saying which group he will be affiliated with.

“I am going to run with a group of persons that I feel are going to work for the betterment of the country and I will do the work to ensure that that happens.”

Dr Pickering also said he was willing to put differences and egos aside to work with colleagues that he worked with before or other colleagues, “to act in a manner of reconciliation.”

The NDP that Dr Pickering helped founded split before the 2019 general elections and Dr Pickering had decided to run as an Independent candidate. It saw him losing his long-held seat.

Dr Pickering said his community has told him not to run as an Independent candidate so he is looking to affiliate himself with a group.

The VI ‘needs experienced leadership’

“I am willing to do my part to build a government that will ensure that we have the best representation that this country can offer in these difficult times.

“I am not here to tell you about NDP, PVIM and this and that, I am talking about like-minded people working together, whatever that organisation turns out to be so let it be.”

Dr Pickering also said he has the ability and experience to hit the ground running as an elected representative.

“Right now the country needs experienced leadership,” he said.

The chips have been falling for years and we saw how they laid, wrong side up. What is he promising to help our district with now? More garbage, litter and empty promises?

This man really think that you East End people are stupid! Over 20 years of nothing and while he was out he didn’t try to make a difference in any way. Well, if you all vote him back, you deserve to live in squalor and have earned his blatant disrespect for your lives.

Many persons from various districts in our country is trying to influence how they want D7 outcome to be. But where were these people for the past three plus years? Many of them last visit to Long Look Stickit was in early February, 2019. The care not for the citizens that live, and reside there. Their support is all they care are about
Remember this. If your name is not on the voters list, you cannot change the outcome of what, and who the majority of the people will elected to represent them in the legisture in the next, and new government.
GOD'S WILLING, DR. KEDRICK PICKERING Will BE ELECTED BY THE MAJORITY OF THE REGISTED VOTERS COME NEXT GENERAL ELECTION. HE WILL ALSO GET A MINISTERIAL POSITION IN THE NEW GOVERNMENT.

When lies, and unsound opinions failed to stand, truth will firmly remain standing forever.

    God alone is absolute Truth.

Forgiveness is a vital life sustaining, preserving ingredients in any person, people, and all Country's positive development.

Yo to now he hasn't confess what he did wrong! Part of seeking forgiveness is admitting exactly what you did wrong to the people you did wrong to. Confess your sins plainly. A braying zebra cannot change his stripes. He will always be a zebra. He only willing to take responsibility for his part???? That is not a leader! A leader accepts full responsibility. I heard the same person at the Stickett that was there from 2011 to 2018. Nothing has changed.

Politics is the oldest profession, well may that other profession is the oldest, a blood sport, an addictive sport. Like an an alcoholic to rum or druggie to pot, a politician is addicted to politics, especially the power, privilege, status and influence it offers. They experience the same challenges as alcoholics and drug addicts do in withdrawal. Few politicians can stay grounded to their true selves; politics change them; it goes to their heads, lifting them from earth into the stratosphere. They become the leaders in George Orwell’s classic Animal Farm. Dr. Pickering was a community spirited dude that let the status of being both a medical doctor (key factor in his getting elected like clock work 5 times) and politician drove him to seek the acceptance of false friends and forget his roots, casting aside his core constituents. He became a pompous and arrogant jet setter. He lived in the community yes, but was he an integral part of the community? Many politicians or political aspirants have the same problem. His behaviour was fools gold.

Consequently, after 20 years, he has little concrete to show for his time in office. What did his constituents get for their confidence and their investing their precious and valuable votes in him? People can change yes but do they always change for the right reason? Most change for self-interest. It is old adage that a leopard cannot change its spots. Poet and civil rights activist Maya Angelou says when someone tells you who they are, believe them. Dr. Pickering assertion that people are jealous of him because he has rich, White friends was a bone-headed statement but it spoke volume. How will he assure the constituents in D-7 that he has changed and is now genuinely concern about their interest, not just their vote. The decision is up to voters and time will tell. Has his ship sailed?

If he did not do it in 20 years why you all think that he can or will do it now. Lame excuse. People of the 7th district, do not make that man come now in 2022 and fool you.
Are you telling me that it will take you 20 years to know that you made a mistake. He'll no.
You spent 12yrs in Government plus 8 in opposition and coming and tell me that you made mistake. Well sah.
Well if you all gave him 20 years to realise that he made mistakes well Wheatley need four (4) mores to correct his, if he made any. Think think.
