ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Solo home runs from Jeremy Penn and Rhodni Skelton gave the Hurricanes a 9-0 rout and a 2-game advantage over the East Invaders on Sunday July 29, 2012 in the Men’s Eva Simmons Fast Pitch Softball Championship Series.

With the Best of Seven Series continuing over this weekend, August 4 and 5 (both games slated to start at 2 p.m.) and with the way the first two games went, there is every chance the Hurricanes will clinch the series early evening on Sunday.

In game one, the Hurricanes defeated the Invaders 6-3 to draw first blood. They had 8 hits, 1 error and left 8 runners on base. The Invaders had 4 hits, 4 errors and left 3 runners on base. The winning pitcher was Neville Smith and the loser was Allen Smith. Kye Rymer of Hurricanes was 2-3 with a double and a run scored, Sheldon John was 2-3 with a double and 2 runs batted in and Byron Parsons was 2-3 with a run batted in. Nateshon Thomas of Invaders was 2-3 with a run scored and a run batted in.

Game 2 was a much more one-sided affair as the Hurricanes routed their opponents 9-0 and gave the Invaders a major hill to climb if they are to prolong the series past the weekend.

Roy Hill pitched the complete game for the shut out allowing just 3 hits whilst the Hurricanes had 9 runs, 9 hits, 1 error and left 6 runners on base. Dwight Brooks was the losing pitcher. Jaquan Thomas of Hurricanes was 2-2 with a double, a run scored and 4 runs batted in, Sylvester Johnson was 2-3 and Jeremy Penn and Rhodni Skelton each hit a solo Home run.

Both teams completed clean sweeps in the best of five semi final series with the Hurricanes completing the job with a 7-4 win over the Reds. They had 7 hits, 2 errors and left 8 runners on base. The Reds had 6 hits, 2 errors and left 8 runners on base. The winning pitcher was Roy Hill and the loser was Jason Fonseca. Rhodni Skelton of Hurricanes was 1-4 with a Home run, 2 runs scored and 4 runs batted in and Sheldon John was 2-3 with a run scored and a run batted in. Six Reds players had 1 hit each.

The Invaders had a much simpler task, completing their sweep with forfeiture from the Street Ballerz.

Following the Pythons sweep of the Hawks in the Women’s Championship, Thea Cooke was named MVP for pitching all three wins with an ERA of just 2.06.

In what turned out to be the deciding game, the Pythons completed a 12-2 win and confirmed themselves as undefeated Champions for the second year in a row. Darier Malone went 2-3 with a home run, 2 runs scored and 3 runs batted in, Jelisa Potter was 2-3 with 2 runs scored and a run batted in and Bria Smith was 2-3 with a run scored and a run batted in.

@ Native Son. Pan is inspiration and an example for all athletes in the BVI. He is still competing and doing so effectively. Many other former players in his age group hang up their spikes a looong time ago. But Roy " Pan Handle" Hill is going strong; he is like the Energizer Bunny. He still has a lot to contribute to softball and should exit stage left when he is good and ready. Pan should be an inspiration to greater BVI community. Lets offer support, not criticism.
