Hundreds thrilled @ 2019 Kiddies Fiesta
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The 2019 Kiddies Fiesta was a success as hundreds of children and their equally elated families attended this highly anticipated event on Saturday July 20, 2019 on the lawns of the Althea Scatliffe Primary School in Road Town, Tortola.
The highlight of the day’s activities was the parade. It had been on a hiatus for about five years but was brought back in full effect for this year’s Kiddies Fiesta.
President of the Rotary Club, Miss Lavina Liburd, shared that the Rotary Club of Road Town was thrilled to re-introduce the parade and also they anticipate making it even bigger and better for next year’s celebration.
“We haven’t done the parade in five or six years. We used to have the costumes and all the kids dressed up, but we changed it to just a party on the field. Now we are doing both!” said the enthusiastic President.
She continued that the Rotary Club will try to get more schools and clubs involved to make the 2020 parade even better.
Other activities and entertainment included mascots (Baby Shark, Pikachu, Mickey Mouse), majorette dancers, face-painting, bouncy castles, golf and a local band.
Many families were out with their children and expressed how important the Kiddies Fiesta is to the community, especially at this time of year.
Glad to get the children out of the house
As it is summer vacation for school children, most families shared that they were mostly happy just to get their children out of the house, and to this pre-festival occasion.
“I am glad this event gives the children something to do; instead of staying home and doing nothing”, said a thankful mother.
Another mother expressed that “it gives the children something to do during Carnival time, not just the regular parade and rides; it’s adding to their experience.”
Anthony Clarke, Secretary of the Rotary Club of Road Town, said they always like to kick off the festival season with this special event.
“For the Rotary Club of Road Town, we are always fascinated to kick off the festival season with Kiddies Fiesta. It is a tradition of ours for about 25 years”.
Hurricane Irma, he said, affected the celebration ‘for a year or so’, but they are back and will continue to get bigger and better.
Giving back to the community
Flow gifted many children with backpacks and supplies at the Kiddies Fiesta.
Acting Country Manager of Flow and Rotary Club of Road Town member, Ravindra Maywahlall, said the company always loves to give back to the community, especially to the children.
With a relationship spanning years, Mr Maywahlall expressed that Flow and the Rotary Club of Road Town share the common value of philanthropy and he is proud that the two can work closely together to do more for society.
“We have worked with the Rotary Club of Road Town many times, and we at Flow will continue to give our support wherever and whenever we can,” said Mr Maywahlall.
