How did Walwyn get hands on AG’s Wall Report? - Claude O. Skelton-Cline
The Minister commissioned the wall just before the 2015 General Elections and the Auditor General (AG) has detailed a tale of corruption including gross violations of the law plus a general disregard for Cabinet and even the Ministry of Finance.
On an episode of “Honestly Speaking,” dated Wednesday, 24th October 2018, host Claude O. Skelton-Cline raised the issue as an opening commentry while interviewing Virgin Islands Party Candidate for the 7th District, former President of the VIP Dr Natalio D. Wheatley aka 'Sowande Uhuru'.
“You would have heard the Premier making a statement where the Minister of Education immediately follows him and what supposed to have been an apology, turned out to be everything else but an apology,” Mr Skelton-Cline said.
Leak of Report
Hon Walwyn after leaking the AG’s report through a hastily arranged press conference a few weeks ago later apologised giving what many described as a half-baked apology to the Premier saying, “If the Premier thinks my actions were wrong then I trust him enough to make an apology.”
In an email from Governor Augustus J. U. Jaspert to Premier Dr the Honourable D. Orlando Smith (AL), the Governor expressed his displeasure over what the Minister did and Dr Smith in an unannounced broadcast on a local radio station stated that he does not support the Minister’s actions before demanding an apology.
“First of all, the Minister of Education took the Government’s property, that was chiefly that of the Governor and is the audited document on the Elmore Stoutt High School perimeter wall,” Skelton-Cline pointed out, “and he (Walwyn) proceeded to issue the document publicly and that was a breach of protocol,” the local radio host said.
How did the Minister get the report?
“The question is, how did the Minister of Education get the final report in the first place and the only way we summarise that he could have gotten it was if the Governor made it available to the Premier and the Premier made it available to his Minister”, “There is no other way he could have or should have got that document,” Skelton-Cline posited.
“What is find most interesting is the statement the premier made at the very end of his presentation, where he said ‘should there be any legal actions taken on this matter, he expects it to be dealt with in the courts,” a very unusual statement giving the NDP Government is never quick to take action, Skelton-Cline said.
The radio host further wondered about the contents of the Governor’s email, “Has the Premier been made preview by the Governor that some legal action is forthcoming?” he said.
