ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition under the controversial Hon Myron V. Walwyn remains (R6) divided as ever, and there appears to be no end in sight to the disunity with Hon Walwyn at the helm.

Today, October 23, 2025, Hon Walwyn called a so-called Opposition press conference; however, only the usual suspects showed up- Hon Melvin M. Turnbull (R2) and Hon Stacy R. Mather (AL), who are both members of the Alliance headed by Hon Walwyn.

Hons Penn & Skelton a ‘no show’

Opposition members and members of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Hons Marlon A. Penn (R8) and Ronnie W. Skelton (AL), were once again absent.

The two NDP members have snubbed all press conferences called by Hon Walwyn ever since he carried out a coup to overthrow Hon Skelton as Opposition Leader.

Hon Walwyn, when asked about the missing members, said they were told about the press conference through the Opposition’s “official channel” of communication.

The 3 Opposition Members used the press conference to paint a grim picture of the Virgin Islands, including stating that the people in the Virgin Islands “are hungry” and alleging that people are being “threatened” by the government over Facebook posts.

They also defended the salary increase for House of Assembly (HoA) members.

Ronnie had 6, but at the time there was not a trust issue between opposition members; I wonder who could have caused that?

After over an hour press conference we have not heard one word or one focus on making changes that help to reduce the cost of living including affordable housing, debt reduction and driving the economy forward. Just hate against our beloved Premier and Virgin Islanders

these dudes so soft, skelton i respect you as a business man but you don't have the political acumen to be the opposition leader, you were outplayed by walwyn at least 2 times now, it's ok, politics is a blood sport, and you are too much of a gentleman to play the game how it needs to be played. With that being said, either your side will put aside their feelings and unite the opposition or we will be under vip again because most people won't even come out to vote for this clown show.

Myron has described his aspirations to become leader of the Alliance and Premier of the country as the worst-kept secret in BVi.

Any politician that might have aspirations to become leader of the country I think it’s important for them to show that they are capable and that they can produce results. These cats have yet to show that side

When myron was voted in as NDP LEADER in 2018 the NDP Ministers and members came out of the hall in shock, they were stunned, including his own deputy Marlone; their faces told the story. They will make sure he doesn't go any further.

All 13 of them should simply resign because we are in serious need of correct leadership

Take a few minutes and look around our country that our forefathers died for:-
    No public water
    No proper public roads
    No stable public electricity
    No proper public transport
No proper pay to our civil servants

In the mean time the 13 of them:-
    Very high monthly salaries
Stands in the house and pull down themselves
    Travel all over the world

We are in 2025 not 1965 just before the next election the 13 of them will be all over your community

there is serious need for change; we need serious minded leadership Not Political Parties

This is more of a reflection of who Ronnie and Marlon are as individuals. We need leaders who are not petty and could put their personal feelings aside in the interest of the country. When the Ronnie was opposition leader even though he was in a different party that was formed to oppose Myron, Myron showed up and participated in the press conferences. Marlon is showing he is not a leader again because he is following Ronnie who will strip him of the leader of the NDP.

Israeli diplomat Abba Eban:” Arabs never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.” Well the opposition in VI never missed an opportunity to divide, oppose. In the last general election on 24 April 2023, opposition parties netted 7 of 13 seats, the minimum needed to form the next government. Nevertheless, the quest to be Premier, the leader of government, the top dog, #1 among equals, badmindness, cutthroat attitude, the if not me, not you attitude ,etc. killed the opportunity. The battle for power among opposition members started the evening of 24 April 23. It was an untrustworthy, political opportunist, shameless, deceitful etc, opposition member bolting with lighting speed to the other side. The battle, division, divisiveness, etc., among opposition have been raging, splintering, ever since. The division among opposition has been an epic race for the bottom; it is painful , embarrassing, etc,,to watch. It makes one go WTF( Whiskey Tango Foxtrot)! The dystopian dysfunction is costly for the VI and its people. The VI needs both a functional ,effective and efficient government, and opposition to address its myriad of issues, viz,, physical infrastructure( water, wastewater, storm water ( drainage), ports( air & sea), telecommunications, electricity, roads), health, education, public safety( police, fire, ambulance), economic development, sustainability and diversification; environmental protection and preservation,, constitutional changes with UK, governmental restructuring, immigration and labour management, and so on.

Moreover, while politicians fight for power, national issues/public interest languish in uncertainty, etc,, politicians did find the time to focus on, feed, fuel their self interest. They work collectively, cooperatively, and collaboratively to give themselves HUGE raises. Typical political behavior, opportunism. The electorate must focus more on what politicians do than what they say..The electorate go to the polls, vote, and then go in hibernation..They must get and stay engaged, holding politicians feet to the fire . True power lies not with the politicians but with the people. If in doubt who has the power, election is due soon and politicians will show up in every nook and cranny in the VI,,some places they avoided , begging, pleading,,etc., for your vote. Moreover, the first pass the pole voting system is flawed with one only needing a simple majority of votes cast to win. Instead, members should get at least 50% + 1 to win. And if not, there should be a runoff among at least the top 2 vote getters. First pass the pole is good for horse racing; election,,another ‘tory.’ Is horse racing in the VI on life support?

Former US President Ronald Reagan supposedly jokes in a speech that politics was the second oldest profession that bears a close resemblance to to the first. What is the first? Is political pro$titution real or just fantasy? Does politics mimics prostitution? Is collective responsibility real, ie, go along to get along? Is political diversity in the best interest of the populace? Can the electorate stop the political nonsense? Is dependency, political patronage a drag on BVI progress? Has the quality of political leadership declined in the BVI? Is education a substitute for political experience, leadership and management? Is the BVI suffering from short-term, myopic thinking? Has the chicken come home to roost? Are bold leadership,,action needed to correct failures of the past? Where is the next Dr. Williard Wheatley, H.L Stoutt, Noel Lloyd, Chris Fleming, Dolph Faulkner, RT O’Neil? Have the olde schoolers done more with less than new boys who are more educated with more resources? Did the old schoolers properly trained the next generation of leaders??Did succession planning failed or the new boys have a different agenda? Is it time for a real deal political renaissance in the BVI? 10-4 over and out.????????????

Socrates, what is the oldest profession and are there people in the BVI serving in the profession? Is the profession a real thing?

@ Socrates, stop the Socratic, supposed wiseacre nonsense , taking it back to the ancient Athens, Greece, street corners. Discuss it Aristotle, Plato,, etc. The VI needs real , substantial, etc, solutions.,This is serious; no time for humor.

The 3 blind mice have destroyed their own chances. I see the Alliance fans blaming Skelton and Penn but let's face it, they will be left standing in the same positions when elections come around. A stronger position than the Alliance with Myron Walwyn. The NDP will survive and reunite with new candidates while the Alliance will be left with no one to work with. Mather better run as independent and step away from now. Myron has been disappointing, for all his brilliance, he's let pride and ego get in his way.
