ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Virgin Islands’ Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Vincent Wheatley (R9) will be assuming the role of chair of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS)/ Pooled Procurement Service (PPS) Board for the upcoming year.

Hon Wheatley will replace the outgoing Chair, Honourable Sir Molwyn Joseph of Antigua and Barbuda.

The Virgin Islands is currently hosting the high-level dialogue meetings of the OECS/PPS Board from October 10- 12, 2023.

Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7), speaking at the opening ceremony for the 36th Organisation of OECS/PPS Board Meeting and Ninth OECS Council of Health Ministers held on October 9, 2023, extended heartfelt gratitude to the outgoing chair for his dedication to the organisation, and by extension, the contributions made through service to the region in his capacity as chair.

“We join with the regional community in thanking the outgoing chair, Honourable Sir Molwyn Joseph, for his service and for the support of the Government and people of Antigua and Barbuda,” Dr Wheatley stated.

'Positive outcomes' expected from high-level dialogue

Premier Wheatley had also said he was expecting the Pooled Procurement Service (PPS) dialogue will generate stronger mutually beneficial partnerships and positive outcomes.

He acknowledged the PPS’s critical role in allowing OECS countries to access quality pharmaceutical supplies at significant savings through strategic negotiation and reductions in shipping and other logistical costs. This was achieved since the individual countries were categorised as a single large customer rather than multiple customers.

All the Caribbean Islands need to become independent and then form one strong nation together. This is where their prosperity will be.

I fully agree. As a matter of fact if those independent Caribbean countries did not get independence before the Brits would block that from happening now because they truly believe all of the Caribbean leaders are corrupt. It is engraved in their colonial DNA. Only they have integrity is what they think.

      The Future and @the Future

Check the history book about the West Indies Federation. It similar to the OECS. After reading, about this you will see why we can't get along. Larger islands want to be boss of everything. Same attitude they're citizens here in the VI displaying today.
