Hon Smith to launch Territory wide 'cleanup' programme in December
Programme aims to strengthen VI community
The programme will be officially launched on December 3, 2024, and aims to strengthen the Virgin Islands (VI) community by fostering engagement, promoting education and development, enhancing health and environmental well-being, and supporting financial growth.
According to a press release today, Monday, November 18, 2024, the programme consists of seventeen projects, which focus on intergenerational development, beautification, the environment, and strengthening communities of the VI.
There are seven targeted projects for this year, the first of which is Paint the Town: Community Beautification Project. This project will focus on beautifying all communities.
The six other projects include Clear the Clutter: Derelict Vehicle Removal Drive, Tradition Meets Tomorrow: Home Economics Training, Wisdom Week: Senior-led Mentorship for Young Adults, Old-time Talk: Cultural Dialect and Slang Mingle, Roots & Branches: Plant a Tree for the Future, and Art from the Heart: Recyclables Competition & Silent Auction.
All invited to be part of the programme
Community members are being invited to be part of this “exciting movement”.
Meanwhile, Hon Smith has shared that Members of the House of Assembly have also been invited to partner with her to revitalise their communities and Territory as a whole. The projects require collaboration with the necessary government departments, agencies, community leaders, and influencers.
Hon Smith said, “We need to know and understand that Beauty is by Nature. Clean is by CHOICE! We have the power to make the changes needed to return our Virgin Islands to its former heights. We must remember that the Virgin Islands “Is OUR Place!” and this is a perfect opportunity for us to rebuild our communities.”
