Hon. Skelton wants special parking for Ministers!
The request was made when the House of Assembly (HOA) as an organization appeared before the committee with its Clerk, Mrs. Phyllis Evans, being cross examined.
The Minister for Health and Social Development queried whether the parking lot for the House’s offices located at the Richard C. Stoutt Building “facilitated parking for Ministers”.
The Clerk informed the Committee, according to the SFC report, that the department was sharing the building and the parking space with the Customs department. Mrs. Evans explained that when informal meetings of the HOA were being held it could be possible to arrange for the Customs department not to utilize the parking lot which would give Ministers parking.
The Clerk also informed the SFC that because the fire escape had been installed it has decreased the parking space to the building.
Minister Skelton queried whether Ministers should utilize vacant Members’ parking space and also asked whether a Member who comes to the Office should park directly behind the Member who utilised their designated parking space.
The Clerk of the HOA, Mrs. Evans, queried whether the Minister was requesting that an additional designated parking space be created, to which Minister Skelton responded in the affirmative.
The Clerk responded that she had noted the Minister’s request.
Currently, at the Richard C. Stoutt Building that houses the HOA offices for the Opposition members and ruling government back benchers, there are parking spots assigned to those members and the Speaker of the HOA.
Ministers of Government, including the Premier, have their designated parking spots in the Central Administrative complex (basement) where their offices are housed.
After two days this week, December 17 and 18, 2012 the Appropriation (2013) Act, 2012 was passed by the Parliament with amendments.
In his budget address, the Premier Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith announced that projected revenue for 2013 is expected to be $298,729,000, while net operating expenditure is projected at $252,397,600.
