Hon. Skelton: VG Hospital in the pipeline
The Minister for Health and Social Development was responding to a caller on NDP radio programme on May 21, 2012, who wanted to know whether or not Virgin Gorda residents will ever have their own hospital.
Against this backdrop, Hon. Skelton stated that he held a meeting with a project team ‘last week to pour over some proposals that we got from some people”.
“We are hoping that very shortly, we will be able to come to the Virgin Gorda community with a possible proposal that we think that can work…so we can go back to the drawing board and get something [plans] finalised by the end of the year. And hopefully to start construction as early as next year,” he told listeners.
When Premier Dr. D. Orlando Smith had delivered the Budget Address on January 19, 2012, he had affirmed his commitment in responding to the growing health care needs of the residents of Virgin Gorda and surrounding communities by developing a modern and efficient medical facility with improved emergency services and observational beds.
“The people of Virgin Gorda need and expect it and my Government intends to provide it,” Hon. Smith had disclosed.
At the moment, the Iris O'Neal Clinic serves the people of VG.
