Hon Ralph T. O’Neal OBE to be laid to rest on VG

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The late first Premier of the Virgin Islands, Member Emeritus of the Virgin Islands House of Assembly (HoA), Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE will be laid to rest on Virgin Gorda, the place he was born and served for some 36 years as an elected official.

This was revealed by Speaker of the House of Assembly Hon Julian Willock at a Special Sitting of the HoA to pay tribute to the former legislator today, December 3, 2019.

Hon O’Neal passed away on November 11, 2019 at age 85. The state funeral for the late political giant will be held at the Multipurpose Sports Complex on Wednesday, December 11, 2019, a public holiday.

According to Hon Willock, there will be a procession of uniform bodies and a marching band from the Hon Ralph T. O’Neal Administration Complex to the Multipurpose Sports Complex from 9:00am.

The procession will proceed right into Waterfront Drive by the traffic lights, past the Roundabout Gas Station and proceed on Fishlock Road Lane past the fire station and head towards the House of Assembly on Pickering Road, turn right to past Ups Cineplex and turn right into Station Avenue and head towards the Multipurpose Sports Complex.

Closed casket funeral

The funeral service will be held at 10:30am and, according to Hon Willock, it will be a closed casket funeral.

Following the funeral, there will be a motorcade that will proceed to the waterfront and a ferry will then transport persons to Virgin Gorda for the burial.

According to Hon Willock, there will be a vehicle procession from St Thomas Bay, head past Speedy’s and on to Millionaire Road towards the Catholic Community Centre were persons will then proceed on foot to the place of burial.

Meanwhile, the body of Hon O’Neal will lie in state at the House of Assembly (HoA) Chambers on Monday, December 9 and Tuesday, December 10, 2019 from 10:30am to 4:00pm on both days.
