Hon Penn to accompany Premier Wheatley to JMC in London
This was revealed by Dr Wheatley at the continuation of the 7th Sitting of the Fourth Session of the Fourth House of Assembly (HoA) on Tuesday, October 25, 2022.
And, according to Dr Wheatley, items to be discussed include constitutional development, sanctions, economic management, climate change and other environmental matters.
“Of course, I will be advancing the interest of the Virgin Islands and raising issues of interest and concern…A key diplomatic objective of the Government of National Unity is to build a new modern partnership with the UK that supports the aspirations of the people of the Virgin Islands.”
Order in Council to be discussed
According to the Premier, the Order in Council to suspend the Virgin Islands constitution will be discussed with the Minister of State for the Americas and Overseas Territories, Mr Alexander Jesse Norman.
Dr Wheatley said the Order in Council is not consistent with a modern partnership based on trust and mutual respect nor does it support the aspirations of the people of the Virgin Islands.
“We want a genuine partnership with the United Kingdom, not one that is held back by coercion. I am confident that we can build a modern partnership but both sides must act in good faith and be true to democracy.”
Premier Wheatley said he looks forward to updating the HoA on the progress of the discussions and any other developments concerning the UK.

Be that as it may| some of those funds being use to pay for airline tickets should be used to fix the public roads| our politicians have no influence on those gatherings and simply guest or a visitor at the various meetings| watch the dam thing on TV
Hope the brothers for democracy speak for me, I want the VI to win ????.
Whether or not we like it, we must be subject to their leadership.
The coming schedule JMC Overseas Territory under the UK's leading is necessary for our current political leaders to participate in as the others. To object to participate will proved desastrous for us politically.
Compliance is helpful in order to experience, learn, and share our views on different issues.
I hope that when the time comes all the Overseas Territory under the UK's leading will greatly benefit from the JMC discussions, and views sharing, and negociationns.
However, it is my honest belief that the Deputy Premier rather than the Health should have been the better pick to accompany the Premier on this planned trip. Why not the health Minister, Hon. Marlon Penn? Because I believe that if the Hon. Premier, Hon. Dr. Natalio Sajande Wheatley is not able to attend, because of unforeseeable cercumstances, the current deputy Premier, Hon. Kye Rymer needs first hand experience, and knowledge. My words are my personal opinion.
However, what has been decided has been decided.
This I know for sure, better governance is urgently needed to help us out of the many mess we are currently experiencing continuously over many past years, Spiritually, socially, economically, mentally, and physically painfully by the majority of people that are living in the BVI.
As Mr Walwin Brewley, one of our past political leader has ofterly repeated; "We shall see what we shall see "
Let Marlon stay England and don’t come back. See how many people will be out of trouble.
