BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI- Putting a team together that can competently deal with the growing list of issues plaguing the Virgin Islands (VI) is what Leader of the National Democratic Party (NDP) Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8) has said is his main focus.

Hon Penn, speaking on Talking Points on ZBVI 780 AM on April 7, 2025, said that following the reunification of the NDP and the Progressive Virgin Islands Party (PVIM) under one umbrella, his eyes are set on “strengthening the persons who are in the room [and] around the table”.

“That is my sole focus right now.”

He said the NDP is calling on people who have an interest in the country and leadership.

“Let’s get together and put a vision and a plan for this country going forward.”

Hon Penn had already disclosed that the only two elected members of the Opposition in discussions following the March 26, 2025, announcement are himself and former Opposition Leader Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL).

Leader of the Opposition Hon Myron V. Walwyn (R6), Hon Melvin M. Turnbull (R2), and Hon Stacy R. Mather (AL) have neither come out to embrace the new NDP publicly nor have they resigned from their respective parties.

Focused on building a team to move VI forward- Hon Penn

While the intentions of the three other Opposition members, who have also forged what they call a Parliamentary Alliance, are unclear, Hon Penn said he is focused on fixing the VI.

Hon Penn said issues such as the tariff discussions and the $100 million loan taken out by the ruling Virgin Islands Party are getting his attention at this time.

“There [are] serious national issues that need serious focused leadership to try to navigate not just these issues, and that’s our focus right now.”

According to Hon Penn, the goal is to build the NDP, putting together a team of individuals who possess the “capacity” to move the Territory forward.

Hon.Penn please enlighten us .Who is leading the Party? Who will be Premier if the NDP wins? If you cannot answer this then the same issues that caused the deterioration of the Party to being with ,will persist. You must address the root cause to fix the issue. Your Team has had 3 years . Who is leading?

Mr. Paul Whattley, founding member of NDP is rolling in his grave. Non entity personnel with greed and selfishness distort the ideal of what the NDP was formed and stranded for.

It is interesting that you mentioned Paul Wattley. It is so ironic that the very people who embraced Paul Wattley are the same ones now vilifying Myron Walwyn. Enough said.

Marion can’t even fix NDP after 7 years or even fix his district. Look at East End after having somebody there for 16years. I don’t know who would follow him.

Didn’t he say that his party will be ready for a snap election, if there was one? How you asking people to join and you don’t have a team. Big man suck your pride and bring the party together, Myron can form a team to win.

NDP campaigned for government in the sunshine - Transparency. Then they wrote the law. The same law they broke. Now everyone is crying about the COI findings and how many jobs the governor will have as opposed to the premier. Well if everyone had been busy obeying the laws they wrote there might have been less for the COI to worry about, like how and who would be handling all the "jobs" the governor would have. So who will trust the NDP now?

What have you really done in your district to show for your years as a representative? NOTHING. You are lazy and only there for the money. I hope somebody else come forward because I'm not sending you to go waste another 4 yrs. You had so long to get NDP organize you there playing tricks cause you know Myton will beat you for the leadership. If you loved your country you would have done the right thing a long time ago. Cart yourself. Myron hurry up and get your people together.

Others are saying Myron is too desperate buddy. I prefer join Ronnie and Marlon because that desperation dripping off of he like used oil and might clog up the machinery. So lots of us will touch that. We're also saying we wish that Mather hadn't join this non-party alliance.

Note to myself: This man can't have legal briefs to write on here blogging all day.

The only thing is when these people lose we tax payers have to pay them for the rest of their miserable life. Marlon may you never have peace to enjoy a cent. 16 years and East End is the same dump. Have our children walking in sewage. Seem like you couldn’t smell it because you not far from it. 4 more years of your laziness hell no.
