Hon Mather assures YEP’s expansion to VG won’t compete with existing programmes
Hon Mather spoke to JTV Channel 55’s Cathy O. Richards on the ‘Big Story’, along with Kim Takeuchi of Unite BVI, and provided an update on YEP’s expansion to the sister island.
Collaborative & Complementary
Virgin Gorda, he said, already has a lot of programmes and YEP “isn’t coming in to isolate them without their assistance. We want to work together…YEP is not about just about us, it’s about the community.”
Hon Mather said YEP’s expansion to Virgin Gorda comes as they were awarded a piece of land there.
“We’re here to work together, just as we’ve partnered with church groups and civic organizations in Tortola,” Hon Mather said.
According to the Deputy Speaker, the new facility will be larger and offer even more opportunities saying, “After 20 years, you can’t just give the same thing—you have to give something better.”
Remarking on its potential impact, Hon Mather said confidently, “When this centre is up and running, you’ll see children walking in groups, heading to YEP or coming from YEP. It will be a visible reminder of a community investing in its future.”
Investing in YEP is investing in the future- Ms Takeuchi
Meanwhile, Ms Takeuchi added that investing in YEP means investing in the incredible potential of the next generation.
“Invest in the future, invest in the people of the BVI. The young people of the BVI have so much talent and vision. By supporting this project, you’re contributing to the best version of the BVI we can imagine,” she said.
Hon. Mather also urged businesses and individuals to prioritise YEP as a cause to donate to urging “throw your support behind us”.
