Hon Maduro-Caines debunks claims of being an ‘Expat Hater’
Hon Maduro-Caines made the revelations at Monday’s June 3, 2019, Fourth Sitting of the First Session of the Fourth House of Assembly (HoA), where she noted that she has been married to an expat for over 15 years and as such, cannot be a hater.
Expat Hater List
The Sixth District representative, in raising points on the controversial, ‘Clear path to regularisation: Residency and Belonger Status Programme,’ led by Premier and Minister of Finance Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1), appeared hurt by the ‘Expat Hater’ label, causing her to share some very personal information with the HoA.
“I was sent a What’s App this morning, with a list of expat haters’ name, and to my surprise, I Alvera Maduro-Caines, whose mother was from St. Kitts, whose husband is from Nevis, whose two children’s father is from St Vincent and whose grandfather was from Curaçao, is now being labelled an expat hater by some of us,” she said.
Hon Maduro-Caines continued, “But I know for the people who know me, know who I am. I didn’t realise I was married to somebody over 15 years that I hated cause he’s an Expat.”
Hon Maduro-Caines in breaking her silence on the government's ‘Fast Track’ initiative had said the government should ‘Put the immigration issue to rest for a while’ and prioritised 'born here' children and immigration backlog first.
She made those recommendations at a Thursday, May 30, 2019, Opposition meeting at East End/Long Look Community Centre where the opposition had labelled the Hon Fahie led 3-month old administration as a ‘dictatorship’ that do not consult with neither the Opposition nor the people.
Bill Sowing Discord - Maduro-Caines
Meanwhile, in a media statement yesterday, June 4, 2019, Ms Maduro-Caines in explaining why she did not vote on the Immigration and Passport (Amendment) Act 2019 Bill said, “No I did not vote, we actually left the sitting… all of the Opposition Members. This to me was not an issue even to bring to the House let alone to be voted on, this was something that could have been done internally which I stated when I made my debate.”
“I am wondering why it even came to the House, I am of the opinion that it came to the House to sow discord among the people and among the Opposition Members,” she further said.
In Monday’s HoA, Hon Maduro-Caines implored, “I could call many persons from different islands who would stand here with me and say yes, Alvera Maduro-Caines has helped them somewhere, somehow in gaining status in this country.”

P.S I born here. My parents born here. My grandpatents born here.
only USA give place of birth rights, thats why bvislanders born their children in USVI,PR and USA and the parents are not US citizens but the child is a US citizen.
For too long we focused on the term "ah barn heer" but we as citizens-belongers never took a closer read of the VI constitution,so we grow up in bvi talking with "ah barn heer" talk without a meaning.
One Love Sister!
Went to the house for voting. Shows clearly you don't know what goes on in the house. Plus, if it went to cabinet, she would not have been able to vote for she was a back bencher and they are not allowed in cabinet. Get your facts straight.. dumbo!
