He was speaking on Friday March 13, 2015 during the Fourth Session of the Fourth Sitting of the Second House of Assembly. The House was at the time debating a motion brought by the Government for a $16 million loan from the Social Security Board to fund road works.
“Madam Speaker, if you’re going to bully people around you cannot expect not to get hit. You can’t expect Madam Speaker to go into the high school and fire the Principal and when the Principal is from Sea Cow’s Bay not expect to get hit by Sea Cow’s Bay People…it’s going to happen,” he said.
“You don’t expect to go into the technical and vocational school and fire the acting Principal and when the Principal is from Sea Cow’s Bay you don’t get hit by Sea Cow’s Bay people,” said Hon Fraser.
“Madam Speaker you don’t go to Balsam Ghut to Her Majesty’s Prison and fire the acting Superintendent of Prisons and when that person is from Sea Cow’s Bay you don’t get hit by Sea Cow’s Bay people,” he said.
“Madam Speaker, and when you get hit don’t make it look like something happened to you out of the sky…actions bring reactions,” he stated. “You don’t for personal selfish gains Madam Speaker, destroy an entire family just because you feel in your mind that you are threatened by one. Destroyed to the point where one is in jail. Bullies don’t live on…they have a lifespan,” he said.
“Neither Madam Speaker do you use your position in this House of Assembly [to further self interest],” he said. “You don’t use your position in the House of Assembly to call Chief Executives of other companies to direct them to benefit your business and that’s what bullying is all about,” he said. “And once you start bullying and get over it one time, two times, three times, you start to feel that you’re king of the hill and bully of them all,” he said.
He said that it is the job of the Opposition to scrutinise whenever Government comes to the House of Assembly for money, especially given how the world had changed following the 2008 financial crisis. “Once the public understands what we are saying on this side of the aisle I hope the Government would listen and understand what we said and how the public feels about it,” he said.
The NDP government has been criticised for many firings and controversial hirings since taking office following the November 2011 general elections.
