ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Third District Representative and Chairman of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Honourable Julian Fraser RA said that the National Democratic Party (NDP) is about bullying people around and warned them to be prepared for the backlash this will cause.

He was speaking on Friday March 13, 2015 during the Fourth Session of the Fourth Sitting of the Second House of Assembly. The House was at the time debating a motion brought by the Government for a $16 million loan from the Social Security Board to fund road works.

“Madam Speaker, if you’re going to bully people around you cannot expect not to get hit. You can’t expect Madam Speaker to go into the high school and fire the Principal and when the Principal is from Sea Cow’s Bay not expect to get hit by Sea Cow’s Bay People…it’s going to happen,” he said.

“You don’t expect to go into the technical and vocational school and fire the acting Principal and when the Principal is from Sea Cow’s Bay you don’t get hit by Sea Cow’s Bay people,” said Hon Fraser.

“Madam Speaker you don’t go to Balsam Ghut to Her Majesty’s Prison and fire the acting Superintendent of Prisons and when that person is from Sea Cow’s Bay you don’t get hit by Sea Cow’s Bay people,” he said.

“Madam Speaker, and when you get hit don’t make it look like something happened to you out of the sky…actions bring reactions,” he stated. “You don’t for personal selfish gains Madam Speaker, destroy an entire family just because you feel in your mind that you are threatened by one. Destroyed to the point where one is in jail. Bullies don’t live on…they have a lifespan,” he said.

“Neither Madam Speaker do you use your position in this House of Assembly [to further self interest],” he said. “You don’t use your position in the House of Assembly to call Chief Executives of other companies to direct them to benefit your business and that’s what bullying is all about,” he said. “And once you start bullying and get over it one time, two times, three times, you start to feel that you’re king of the hill and bully of them all,” he said.

He said that it is the job of the Opposition to scrutinise whenever Government comes to the House of Assembly for money, especially given how the world had changed following the 2008 financial crisis. “Once the public understands what we are saying on this side of the aisle I hope the Government would listen and understand what we said and how the public feels about it,” he said.

The NDP government has been criticised for many firings and controversial hirings since taking office following the November 2011 general elections.

Excuse me, I remember about 12 years ago the VIP had a sign up stating "If you're not for us then you're against us". Telling people they have a chance in hell if you were not on their team. Who were the ullies then and THAT is why they were booted out of office.

The NDP Government is crippling this territory. All because of self interest. They are a great disappointment to this community. Their behavior in the house is atrocious. Never before have we had such rude behavior. Is there no respect for the house? How can we speak about the young people's behavior when this is the example they are seeing set? Wise up. The world is watching. Work for the people and stop fighting. We are destroying Natures Little Secret. We are one people. Let us work together. Government and opposition must sit together in a friendly atmosphere and plan long term for the territory.maybe ten to fifteen years.

I think there is bullying, posturing and bad mindedness on both sides of the floor. It's a disgrace and it speaks to the quality of persons we have in politics today. We desperately need new leadership who have an understanding of and respect for people, the house and these Virgin Islands. A little decorum would be greatly appreciated by all.
