BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI - Businessman and former At-Large Candidate under the Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3) led Progressives United (PU) party in 2019, Mr Rajah A. Smtih, says he believes Hon Fraser would be better off under the Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) led Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Government.

Mr Smith's comment came on the Wednesday, April 8, 2020, edition of the 'Honestly Speaking' radio show with moderator Claude O. Skelton-Cline after a question was posited on if Hon Fraser would benefit from joining the existing government.

D3 Water woes finally solved - Smith

Mr Smith in reply said, "I would say yes... but I think that should be a decision amongst the people. If the people in his constituency and his supporters encourages him to do so, I think it is a viable option," he said.

Smith further pointed out that after just one year of leadership under the Premier Fahie Government, Hon Fraser working along with the VIP administration has virtually solved a 'water plague' that the Third District has been experiencing for several years.

"I want to commend the representative and the Minister [Kye M. Rymer (R5)]. I don't know what the people of the Third District would have done [without] having the water being running right now. I think water is on nearly twenty-four hours a day," he said relating to the COVID-19 pandemic and maintaining proper hygiene.

'NDP punished the people' - Smith

According to Mr Smith, in the past under the Dr D. Orlando Smith National Democratic Party (NDP) government, residents were forced to wake up as early at 05:00 am, in order to store a bucket of water.

"I think the last administration probably punished the people of the Third District if you ask me," he said.

Smith noted that given the developments in the district in that short time, he said there are conversations being had over the future of Hon Fraser, "There will always be rumblings on the ground in terms of gatherings and stuff like that people, sit down and think that the representative is better off with the VIP."

Smith continued, "Politics is a fight and I think sometimes we can put stuff behind of us for the betterment of the people of the Territory."

That would be a bitter pill to swallow.
All Mr. Fraser has to do is represent his constituents. He was the leader of the VIP prior to the the last election and would have been the Premier before they came up with the idea that the newly elected chairman has to be the leader, an idea that has never been a requirement in government.

He could only have been the Premier if that’s what the electorate wanted. Just remember that!

In 2019 Hon. Fraser won his 5th consecutive term as district 3 representative. Hon. Fraser defeated his two opponents handily with 519, Parillon NDP 294 and Smith- Thompson VIP 289. A closer look would show that he gained a minority 47% of the popularity vote which does display some weakness and makes you wonder what could have been if he was running against only one candidate. Moving to the VIP would make sense in that regard as it would possibly coalesce the VIP supporters with his and set him up for a 6th term. Nothing is guaranteed as it is never that straightforward as some of those Vip voters could well be anti-Fraser and it all depends who runs on the NDP ticket. Age will be an issue as Fraser will be 70 plus then and a 5 termer with some calling for him to retire. Hon. Maduro Caines made a similar move after being run close by her one contender John Samuel 575 to 534 and it remains to see how this will pan out.

Premier Fahie has operated so far on a no district left behind agenda. The water issue is no more so this may even be another reason why Fraser should be convinced to join his team. Can Fahie continue to satisfy all especially with dwindling revenues especially after this COVID pandemic and a likely recession?

The main issue here is can Fraser humble and follow the leader? Fraser will be a backbencher can he deal with that? He lost the leadership to Andrew Fahie in the internal elections and instead of supporting him he went rogue and started his own party PU. A party borne out of spite and pigheadedness which is apparently no more as Rajah Smith is not even talking about a party whose ticket he ran on. History often repeats itself cause we do not learn from it.

I would prefer he not join as I believe he will eventually undermine the party especially if he does not get his way. Also him joining will weaken an already weakened opposition which appears to be already lacking numbers, leadership and direction. A strong opposition is essential for good governance. 10-3 is an overwhelming majority and recent history has shown that these majorities has led to complacency, mismanagement and reckless decisions.

Good to see the water issue is remedied hopefully they can start to clean up the district at it has been an eyesore since Irma. Fraser should stay where he is as moving will likely do more harm than good.

hon fraser been in the wilderness for so many many years might be a good idea to rejoin the party that he help develop. hon fraser will not find enough candidates to win an election but he will make a good a Permier.....need to work on the member for district two; so he will cross the floor because pvim way out to sea: hon penn will be on his own for a while because another 4 year of an NDP administration is questionable: mr pool may be on his last political leg; we love him at the supermarket ensuring the residents are getting good value for our money: Hon Caines already jump ship and safe on the life boat and moving forward: Remind John to stay at home come 2023 because district 6 is good to go!!!!!

The right honourable Andrew Fahie, named by the legendary politician ralph O'Neal as the "brown-bomber" would be making the worsed mistake of his political career to have the most arrogant politician named frazer in the history of bvi politics to part of the vip again. if husband and wife cant agree and they divorced, stay divorced.
Mr,o'neal would turn in his peaceful grave to hear the angels tell him frazer is back.
The vip won without frazer, move on without frazer.
    he is toooo arrogant.
[" Forward ever-backwards never "] stick to the slogan.
    One love vip.

Legal Team, I am in total agreement with you. Let Frazer stay just where he is. I believe Fahie is to smart to let Frazer back into the VIP. Yet again that will never happen. Frazer have too much pride. Remember he said he cannot remember Andrew Fahie name. His pride is going to take the better of him

Please and kindly extend your kindness and sensibility to the water woes in District 1. Years now and we suffering. Not even the probability of a local pandemic outreak and ensuing death has caused sympathy to expend some water in our pipes. Barely can we wash our hands. Cannot wash our clothes or water our vegetable gardens. Bathing in a bucket year in year out. Indifnity day in day outyear after year.Jesus like he turn his back. Help, please.

The couple of aryo who on here bad-mouthing fraser never voted for fraser and probably never will. Fraser dont need aryo, infact aryo have to pay his pension. Fraser won without the VIP so obviously he doesn't need them to help him win and besides, he is getting all his projects addressed as we speak. Put that in aryo pipe and smoke it.
