ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Further to the recent announcement by Leader of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Hon Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE that the party will on April 23, 2014 hold a congress meeting to have internal elections, seasoned member of the party, Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3) has told Virgin Islands News Online that he intends to accept a nomination for the position of VIP Chairman should one be put forward in his favour.

Fraser said that he supported O’Neal’s call for a special meeting of the party and said he believes it is good for the party going forward. He said that it is in the Territory’s best interest that the meeting and the elections are held within the party.

In a brief statement dated March 26, 2014, O’Neal said, “In exercise of the powers of Chairman under the Virgin Islands Party Constitution I have on Thursday March 27th written the Secretary of the Party as is required directing that it is my express desire to have convened a Special Meeting of the Party on Wednesday [April 23, 2014]. The purpose of the Special Meeting is to conduct elections of Officers of the Executive Committee as set out in the Constitution.”

Hon O’Neal could not be reached for further comment on the announcement and what might have prompted it.

Hon Fraser said that while cannot offer himself for nomination, if someone nominates him for contesting the position of Leader of the Party he will accept. “If I am nominated, I will not deny those persons who support me the opportunity of seeing the nomination [going forward],” said Fraser.

Another leading member of the VIP Hon Andrew A. Fahie when asked whether he intends to contest the post of VIP Chairman said that he preferred to wait until the meeting takes place before commenting.

He might win the VIP Chairman nomination but OJ might beat him this time round in Sea Cows Bay.Would be strange to see him as Chairman but not an elected member? People assuming he'll automatically win that seat..its far from automatic!

If this happens, NDP will have a big party in the streets!! Election campaigning will be much easier.."Do you really want to risk Mr. Fraser as our Premier?..vote for our people to avoid that happening!!.".. Say what you like but when you leave the 3rd District, Fraser gets no love, AT ALL! He's a polarizing figure and has boxed himself into a corner as a pure District Rep with no appeal outside of his district. Case in point, he's a senior VIP and acts like he has the biggest balls, but have you ever seen Fraser in any other District rallying support for any other candidate? Never, because he CANNOT. So, NDP/PEP would love for him to become VIP Chairman and in line for premiership. LOLOLOL!!

What was Fraser going to tell folks outside his District, that he was the leader of the party? It is the leader of the Party who is supposed to go around making sure that the other candidates are doing their jobs for their constituents. I remember same thing them say bout Ralph before he was Chief. Them use to call he Autola. Rember? Fraser will do just fine.

We cannot risk letting Fraser run the country, if he becomes leader of VIP I very much doubt he will get to form a government, he is disliked on the whole. Not sure why district 3 like him so much.

I would nominate Hon Fraser for the leader of the VIP party not due to agreeing with everything he does but due to the fact he has the balls and backbone to stick to his guns and see the project through to completion. This is exactly what the country needs as I said to the Honerable Minister on August Monday!
