Hon. Fahie to be honoured by USVI group
The other persons to be honoured for this year’s annual event are Mrs Maria Ayala, Mrs Stephanie Benn and Mr Dion Parson.
The group expressed pride in announcing this year’s honourees. “They have worked tirelessly for the good of the communities in which they have served and continue to make significant contributions through their commitment and dedication,” a statement from the organisation read.
When contacted about the award, Hon. Fahie said he would like to thank the League for considering him for the award. “This is a privilege and an honour and first of all I would like to thank God for giving me the strength to represent the people not only politically, but in other avenues over the years.”
He thanked his family members, people of the First Disctrict and all his friends for their continued support over the years in being able to help the community in any way.
The First District Representative said he did not do any work in order to be recognised publicly but was grateful that he was recognised by the group for his service.
“I will continue to serve in the best interest of the people and make sure God’s will be done,” he added.
The League of British Virgin Islanders is a non-profit organization founded by visionaries to bring together [British] Virgin Islanders and Belongers in a social and cordial setting.
According to the statement, the most important goal was to link the two Virgin Islands, positively impacting their communities and strengthening the inter-relationship. The League today continues to follow the same goals by offering community assistance and providing assistance to Virgin Islanders through education.
The Norwell Harrigan Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Norwell Harrigan. Among other achievements, he joined the then College of the Virgin Islanders in 1968. Dr. Harrigan became the Associate Director and subsequently director of the Caribbean Research Institute before retiring in 1984.
The scholarship offers financial assistance for two years to British Virgin Islanders, who have graduated from a secondary school of the British Virgin Islands or the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College, to attend the University of the Virgin Islands.
According to the group, this annual scholarship continues to offer financial aid for several previous and present students in their pursuit of higher education. The proceeds from the event will go towards the scholarship fund.
