Hon Fahie fires back in stinging rebuke of NDP Chairman
Hon Fahie’s stinging rebuke of his political opponent comes in wake of reports that the NDP Chairman has accused the VIP of instigating the question of his eligibility to sit as an elected member in the Virgin Islands (VI) House of Assembly.
According to the VIP Chairman, the party “is about the issues, such as restoring the middle class and an economy where all can thrive… about restoring accountability, transparency and good governance.”
Restoring Accountability
Hon Fahie is adamant, “the VIP will not allow anyone to pull us into their storm but rather we will pull them into our mission of working towards creating a better Virgin Islands for all.”
Media reports suggest Hon Walwyn has claimed that the VIP is behind the ‘eligbility witchunt.’ Investigations by our newsroom however, reveal quite the opposite and that the questioning of his eligibility is in fact being pushed by persons within the NDP.
Hon Fahie says the VIP is more interested in pushing a legislative agenda that will restore good governance, transparency and accountability in the VI Government and its elected officials.
Not Interested
The Opposition Leader in recent weeks held a series of public meetings with residents of the Territory, where he has been expanding on his proposed agenda through legislations such as The Whistle Blower Legislation for public officers and for ‘Integrity in Public life.’
He is also pushing for legal mechanisms to have Cabinet decisions being made public, except for those that have security concerns especially National Security, “Register of interest of public officials being made public; Decentralization of Government resources to districts so that district representatives are given more autonomy in their districts where they no longer have to be at the mercy of five ministers.” “These and more are the issues that VIP will be pursuing on behalf of the people of the Virgin Islands,” Hon Fahie contends, insisting the party is not interested in distraction tactics.

The president of the VIP first district committee is a Virgin Islander born in St. Kitts. You were the one to bring on board at the Ministry of Education and Culture a Permanent Secretary who is a Virgin Islander born in Jamaica. I remember when you were the Minister of Education and a school year there were more children entering school than the schools could accommodate who were born of expatriate parents and you told the staff to find space for the students. You Fahie said: “They are Virgin Islanders, find space for them.” So who want to listen to this man trying to make you look like you are behind this situation when he fully well know it’s his own party, I sorry for them. The same set who said Caribbean people didn’t see a $100 bill before they came here, is the same set who is questioning his eligibility.
