Hon Christopher remembered for strong voice, bold principles
The Church in a press release dated Monday, October 29, 2018, released part 2 of the series entitled, “Tribute to a phenomenal woman, lessons from a BVI Patriot.”
“Honourable Christopher was a national treasure, a patriot, a cultural advocate and so much more, and she has left behind so many examples that we can glean from and make a positive mark in this community,” the release states.
Never afraid to speak up
Dr Turnbull admired that she was never afraid to speak up, “Whether in the House of Assembly, in private or public settings, ‘D’ was never shy in making her voice heard. She especially provided a historical context to her argument, and she was good at drawing analogies to ensure that we had gotten her point,” he said.
Reverent Turnbull also said that Hon Lettsome-Christopher was never afraid to stand up and stood on principle, “She was never swayed by what’s popular or tried to fit the status quo... You always knew where she stood – on the side of what’s right and in the best interest of her people of the Virgin Islands.”
He added that she often lamented over the apathy and delinquency of some of her contemporaries on critical issues affecting the Territory.
“As I listened to my sister in the House of Assembly, especially in the recent past, there was a sense of urgency in her deliberation. I can only pray that we arise from our slumber and spring into action to preserve this territory for generations yet unborn,” Dr Turnbull said.
Hon Lettsome-Christopher died on October 16, 2018, at her Tortola home and was Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly and Representative for the Fifth Electoral District of the British Virgin Islands.
The Government of the Virgin Islands has announced the date for the funeral of Hon Lettsome-Christopher as November 3, 2018.
