HoA moves to SAP for unbudgeted transformative Gov't projects
Addressing the House of Assembly on July 13, 2023, Hon Smith said, "I am pleased to say that some of those funds would be used to support us in our digital transformation efforts on trade so that we can speed up the whole process of work permits."
While not saying much on the topic, Hon Smith was keen on noting that it is something that brings everyone together, "The BVIslander, employee, employer, and the labor department and in a very short period of time we should be able to speed up the whole process of employment. And when I say employment, I am not just talking about work permits."
According to Hon Smith, she has made it abundantly clear to the newly established BVI Yachting Tourism Hotel Tourism Association that locals must be prioritized.
Bvilanders must be accommodated - Hon Smith
"As I said to them yesterday, yes we are committed to making sure that they have the resources they need in terms of people but make no apology about the fact that our BVIslanders have to be served and our BVIslanders have to be accommodated."
On the other hand, she also spoke to some initiatives to be looked at under the Ministry of Financial Services., "We do agree that we need to review our financial services to make sure that that they are responsive, not just in terms of bringing in the lion's share of revenue in the territory but that they are responsive in terms of making sure that the people of the BVI benefits."
Hon Smith said that subject to all the new formalities, "I am hoping that by the end of this year, I would be able to have sound advise through a review of our Financial Services, to look at what it is and also look at the future," she added.
