HMP inmate Wakima Lettsome charged for attempted murder
According to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) in a press release today February 18, 2015, Lettsome has been officially charged with attempted murder, one count of being armed with an offensive weapon and two counts of Assault on a Prison Officer.
The Police release said, “The Governor signed a warrant yesterday for Lettsome’s removal from the prison so that he could be interviewed and officially charged. He has since been returned to prison."
It said too that a date for his appearance in Magistrate’s Court has not been set.
According to the RVIPF, inquiries revealed that the Prison Officer was on duty making his rounds when the assault occurred on Sunday morning.
The Prison Officer, Fagen, was treated at Peebles Hospital for stab wounds following the incident. He is now discharged from the medical facility.
Sources at the prison with whom this news site spoke said that the Prison Officer was allegedly armed with a knife, which Lettsome reportedly grabbed from him during a struggle and used to stab him.
On February 15, 2013 Lettsome was sentenced to 20 years in prison by Justice Albert Redhead. Lettsome was previously found not guilty of attempted murder but guilty on a lesser charge of wounding with intent in November 2012.
