HMP inmate Jose Almestica reportedly stabbed

BALSAM GHUT, Tortola, VI- Word just reaching our newsroom is that inmate at Her Majesty's Prison in Balsam Ghut Jose Almestica has been rushed to Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital with stab wounds.

The stabbing allegedly took place sometime today, July 3, 2022.

It is unclear the extent of Almestica's wounds or the perpetrator.

Almestica, 33, of the US Virgin Islands, was re-captured on December 7, 2021. He was in prison for illegal possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition and illegal entry prior to his escape from Her Majesty's Prison following the passage of Hurricane Irma in September 2017.

Commissioner of Police Mr Mark Collins had disclosed that 20 firearms and $50 million worth of drugs were found inside Almestica’s Ballast Bay apartment, paving the way for countless more charges to be laid against him.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Prisons Mr Guy M. Hill did not respond to our request for a comment.

      NO No the prison is not set up for violent criminals who need maximum security they need to be sent away to maximum prisons in the UK. That is why crime is so rampant one of the reasons the prison life at Balsum ghut is not a deterent.

    Where do those prisoners find those weapons, heavier security must be in place 24/7. for some reason the present security measures are not working out.

      That is the first thing that came to mind, I do hope he is alright that he get to serve the full length of his time.

      They need to chain him to the bed and as he can move. Move him back to his cell. He needs not special protection, he when was out commiting crime he never cared who he harm

    This new boss have no prison experience ,he have no clue, i dont see why the ministry would be put someone there because they local, thant make no kind of sense he like he on a staycation, he dont understand he role and dont understand how to manage a prison

    Mr Hill put all the staff upstair to work on the units you have 7 staff upstair,
    Im begging you please, take the duties from the person who doing it she have no interest and is disconected from what going on

    In most system their is a weak link that compromise the whole thing and the offender's know who the weak links are and take advantage....The boss need to know also who those weak links are and fix the problem..Then again sometimes the boss is a weak link and you end up with a mess...

    The prison has been in a mess before Hill went there and the prison will be a mess after Hill leaves. Some staff who blogging and having relationships with inmates will never amount to anything but stooges collecting a check every two weeks. They cares not about Hill, the prison, the Virgin Islands or its people. Yes' I went there.

    You know some of who are trying to drag down Hill on here' I bet they never had a conversation with him. Or they had a conversation and the still turn and drag him through the mud. Das the evilness of people. Bvislanders who throw contraband over the prison fence, they will blame Hill for that also. Lawyers who lie and try to get him to skirt the system he get blame for that too. For what I know of Hill, he in one incorruptible individual and that has ruffled a lot of corrupt friends of the prison.

    @BV Islander.... I haven't written here in a while but you seems to have a beef who in charge of the Prison. First of all it take a bold n brave person to take on that assignment . Secondly, did the inmate get stab because of all that you wrote? A man died in there last year and you had all the veterans and experienced people on duty. What the @#$%^ is up with that? But you are the typical BV Islander.....slaughter your own for no reason but to slaughter your own.
