HLSCC to host dynamic summer camp for youths aged 9-15 for 3rd consecutive year

PARAQUITA BAY, Tortola, VI – This summer, the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) is set to ignite the imaginations of young learners with its third annual Summer Camp, tailored for children 9 through 15 years of age.

Running from July 2 – to July 31, 2024, this camp is not only a showcase of the College’s diverse programmes but also a unique opportunity for youngsters to dive into a world of discovery and fun.

Action-packed schedule

Director of the Learning Resource Centre and Programme Coordinator, Mr Kenyatha Augustine explained that HLSCC Summer Camp promises an action-packed schedule filled with engaging and educational activities designed to nurture curiosity and foster a love for learning.

“Parents seeking an enriching summer experience for their children need look no further. The HLSCC Summer Camp is the ultimate summer experience for parents seeking a programme that nurtures independent thought through exceptionally interactive and fun activities. We are excited to offer a dynamic environment where young minds can explore, learn, and grow,” Mr Augustine said.

During the camp, attendees will embark on a journey through the culinary arts, learning to create delicious dishes from scratch.

Innovative STEAM projects

According to a press release from HLSCC, budding artists can unleash their creativity through pottery making, crafting their own masterpieces. Explorers will delve into the rich history of the region through captivating historical tours, while sports enthusiasts can enjoy a variety of activities from soccer to archery.

HLSCC further said innovative STEAM projects in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math will stimulate young minds, and CPR training will empower participants with vital life-saving skills. Aspiring musicians can discover new instruments and rhythms, and cultural showcases will celebrate diversity by highlighting various cultures and traditions.

‘More than just fun’

Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr Ronald Brunton shared that the camp is more than just fun and games.

“The HLSCC Summer Camp serves as a crucial bridge to higher education, giving young participants a taste of the college environment and inspiring potential career paths. Through hands-on experiences, children will gain valuable insights and skills that could shape their futures. Parents can feel confident knowing their children will be engaged in safe, educational activities that open a world of opportunities.”

The camp runs from 9:00 AM through 4:00 PM daily. Special discounts are being offered for faculty and staff and payment plans are available for the general public.
