PARAQUITA BAY, Tortola, VI – In a bold move to galvanise community support and celebrate its 35th anniversary, the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) has announced the launch of its Giving Tuesday Campaign through its HLSCC Foundation.

This initiative, a cornerstone of the College’s anniversary fundraising efforts, aims to attract donations from a diverse range of donors to support various causes within the College.

Starting on March 18 and continuing on the third Tuesday of each month until December 16, when the campaign will move to a quarterly timeline, the Giving Tuesday Campaign is set to harness the power of collective generosity.

HLSCC hoping to raise $1M from Giving Tuesday Campaign

Giving Tuesday, a global movement that encourages people to do good and give back to their communities, provides the perfect platform for HLSCC to engage with its supporters and advance its mission to provide a learning experience that cultivates excellence, intellectual curiosity community and a spirit of stewardship, HLSCC stated in a press release.

President of HLSCC, Dr Richard W. Georges expressed his enthusiasm for the campaign. President Georges said, "Our Giving Tuesday Campaign is a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together and support the College’s mission. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a significant impact and helps us advance the dream of a visionary. We are grateful for the generosity of our donors over the years and look forward to building a brighter future together."

HLSCC has set an ambitious goal to raise $3.5 million by 2030, with at least $1 million coming from the Giving Tuesday Campaign.

Donors can choose to support one of three broad areas: Programmes and Student Support, Community and the Arts, and Infrastructural Development.

Where will the funds go?

Contributions to Programmes and Student Support will assist students pursuing learning opportunities across all departments, centres, and institutes. This includes access to the best possible teaching and learning, extracurricular activities, career preparation, basic needs, or travel to represent the College internationally. Donors can also create endowed positions for lecturers and artists whose work aligns with the College’s mission.

Contributions to the Community and the Arts will support a robust roster of programmes, including the BVI Lit Fest, the Mangrove Nursery and Boardwalk, the Virgin Islands Maritime Heritage Exhibit, the Performing Arts Series, the National Theatre Series, the Lecture Series, visiting speakers, exhibits, performances, and other events.

Contributions to Infrastructural Development will go towards the upkeep and modernisation of existing facilities or upcoming flagship projects such as the HLSCC Athletics Centre (with a competition pool), the Stone House Restaurant, a new instructional building, or the Technical Training Centre, to name a few.

How to donate?

The public can contribute to all of these areas and activities easily via cash, cheque, credit/debit card, in person or online, making it easy to participate. For United States citizens or businesses, the HLSCC Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) organisation and tax exempt gifts can be made via wire to the Foundation’s U.S. bank account.

HLSCC invites everyone in the community to join in the 35th Anniversary Fundraising Campaign, contributing to “The Dream of a Visionary.” For more information on how to donate and participate in the Giving Tuesday Campaign, please visit www.hlscc.edu.vg/give.
