CAPOON’S BAY, Tortola, VI – Representative for the First District and senior member of the Opposition Virgin Islands Party, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie has called late former Chief Minister of the Virgin Islands Hamilton Lavity Stoutt the territory’s modern day Moses as, according to him, Hon Stoutt was someone whom God sent to lead his people.

Honourable Fahie was speaking at the wreath-laying ceremony held on Monday March 2, 2015 at the Capoon’s Bay cemetery in commemoration of the death anniversary of the former Chief Minister.

“In every era in life a hero comes along. In every era of life a modern day Moses comes along. In every era of life God uses someone to bring hope to those that feel a sense of hopelessness. In every era of life God sends someone that has no fear, to lead His people,” he said.

“The late but great HL Stoutt possessed all these qualities. He was fearless. He brought hope to those that felt a sense of hopelessness. HL Stoutt was the Virgin Islands’ modern day Moses. He always believed in the Bible verse that states… ‘Where there is no vison the people shall perish.’ Indeed he was a visionary and it was fitting that he was our Territory’s first Chief Minister; a founding member of the Virgin Islands Party; and, the representative of the First Electoral District from 1957 to 1995 when he died,” he said.

He noted that H. Lavity Stoutt’s life was about service and that his ability to take challenges and turn them into opportunities for present and future generations was a remarkable trait of his character as a leader. “His love for God was obvious through the manner in which he loved and treated everyone he came in contact with,” said Honourable Fahie.

According to Honourable Fahie, HL Stoutt allowed his light to shine in every situation he encountered no matter how difficult the situation might have been. “He understood that light can always disperse darkness but darkness cannot disperse light. Hence he stayed positive and later focused on fulfilling his God given purpose for existing. HL Stoutt also understood that seeds of greatness have been planted in each of us by the Creator from birth. He knew how to water them and let them grow into a tree that produced fruits for all to enjoy for generations.”

“Today we are still benefitting from his contributions or rather from the fruits of his labour through the HL Stoutt Community College, Secondary education for all persons, a solid education foundation for the territory, Financial Services, many public roads especially in the country sides and outside the town area, and the list goes on. Even when he made an error, his love for God allowed him to understand that once you keep your trust and confidence in God, then He can take your great-mess and turn it into GREATNESS! This was evident with Wickham’s Cay, Anegada, among a few other historic events in our territory’s history,” said Honourable Fahie.

“For the legacy of this late but “GREAT” leader we must thank God for using him as a conduit to fulfil His Will for the people of the Virgin Islands. We must thank his family for sharing him with the entire Virgin Islands. We must thank the people of the First District who stuck with him through thick and thin by electing him and thereafter continuously re-elected him to represent them in the First District as well as the entire Virgin Islands. Indeed HL Stoutt was a man who understood his purpose and worked diligently to fulfil it,” he said.

He said that while HL Stoutt is long gone, his legacy “will live on forever in our hearts and through his contributions to the Virgin Islands.”

“He was an exemplary leader. Our modern day Moses is gone but the same God that gave him to us is still with us. Through Him will our modern day Caleb and Joshua arise and carry our Virgin Islands into the promise land. As a Territory our best days are not our yesterdays. Our best days are still ahead of us. Remember that as a people we cannot change the direction of the wind. But, remember that we can always adjust our sails to catch the fresh winds of hope and prosperity that are blowing in our direction,” Hon Fahie said.

They are all lame. All they can do is ride Lavity's legacy to death. Pittyful. Returning the country to these morons would be a grave mistake...

Lavity, Moses, give me a break. It is my hope that this is the last "march by" and we would find something a bit more meaningful to spend our time doing. The late Prime- Ministers of Trinidad, E. Williams and Norman Manley of Barbados both brilliant men who served their countries with untarnished records, do these countries have holidays and wreath laying for them? These ex-civil servants who continue to promote this extravaganza need to earn an honest living. Stop abusing the people's taxes

LMAO!!!! Only when you die you are good, that's the BVI way! They slaughter you while you are here on earth and then glorify you on your death bed or in the ground. HL Stoutt, Noel Lloyd, Paul P. Wattley to name a few. I don't know how some people sleep at night, I swear! SMH!

Who else saw what the BVI could become and championed the cause to do so? Many people of the Virgin Islands like to be ungrateful. A holiday was given to Prince Charles and what were we given a holiday for? What he did for the BVI but continued to keep the wool over some eyes after the Monarchy's involvement in colonialism? There are no gold mines in UK, but the Queen got the most; there are no diamond mines in UK, but she got the biggest -- the raping of Africa. To not honour our heroes is living under the hood of forgetting our history and certainly not knowing our destiny as a people. Look around the world and ask them why they have holidays for heroes? This is insulting. It is like asking the "King Family" in Atlanta, why you want a holiday for MLK? It is like asking the USA, why you want a holiday for George Washington? He died a long time. He was their first president and they honour that.
You don't have to honour Lavity, just do not go to the Complex he championed; do not send your children to the Comprehensive High School, do not send them to the college or speak to anyone who was educated at the college; do not drive on the Drake's Highway and don't pay your Social Security -- I may look for you, ABC, in Balsam Ghut then.
Honour our own, unite around our people for the good of this Territory and refrain from your idle talk of thinking Lavity's contribution is not worthy of what he was given. Give honour where it is due and in my opinion his memory is well worthy. As someone said in the booklet ...His name will never die out, the father of the Nation, the late Hon. Hamilton Lavity Stoutt.

To each his own, CB Romney is my BVI hero. Moses killed, yet he is a hero, David killed, yet he is a hero, but we burry, forget and discredit CB Romney Accomplishments because he made a few bad judgments. Most BV Islanders under 25 Don't know about CB Romney and that he was responsible for bringing Financial services and tourism to the BVI, because we refuse to tell them---All we tell them is what Lavity accomplished-- Because Romney left Money in the treasury for him to spend.

and Romney is still making money off of the cruise ships coming in, deals with Peter island landed him in jail.
He was slick and self-serving. yes he brought a lot of development and business to BVI, but it was not all for the greater good.
