Heavy outpouring despite heavy downpour at funeral of Reeial A. George
Mr George passed away on October 21, 2013 and his funeral saw the coming together of politicians from both sides of the House of Assembly of the Virgin Islands, family members, loved ones and those whose lives he may have impacted in one way or the other during his lifetime.
It was a ram jammed house even to the overflow at the North Sound Methodist Church, Virgin Gorda where the funeral was held. The heavy rainfall took the blame of the late start of the viewing session and the cancellation of the planned military procession but it certainly did not deterred persons from turning up in their numbers.
During the viewing session which was significantly cut short mourners join with the North Sound Methodist Church Choir and the Valley Sounds Lions’ Club as they lustily sang hymns. This was followed by the official Funeral service which heard tributes and Deputy Premier and Minister for Natural Resources and Labour Honourable Kedrick D. Pickering reflecting on the legacy that was left to treasure and remembered by Mr George.
Among those who gave tribute were Leader of the Virgin Islands Party Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE and Second District Representative Honourable J. Alvin Christopher,
The sermon was done by Reverend Charles Seaton which paved the way for the burial which was done at the North Sound Public Ceremony.
The George’s Family expressed their heartfelt gratitude to a number of persons for their outpouring of love, warmth, well wishes, hugs and prayers during their time of bereavement. Among those were doctors, nurses, and the social services division at the Peebles Hospital. Others were the management and staff of Bitter End Yacht Club, the Valley Sound Lions Club, speaker and members of the House of Assembly among several others.
“Your many acts of Kindness are a balm to our hearts and have uplifted our spirits. May God bless you all and may his perpetual light continue to shine upon you,” said the family’s acknowledgement.
Mother earth was graced with the life of the late Mr Reeial A. George who was born on September 17, 1938. He died at the age of 75.
