ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Virgin Islands (VI) Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) has cautioned citizens against flouting the territory’s COVID-19 health measures during the Christmas season, warning of what consequences could come as a result.

“High spikes in active cases, immense pressure on our healthcare and public health systems, strict curfew orders, closures of programmes and schools and limited gatherings. These are all repercussions of what happens when there is a lapse or when there is non-compliance,” he said.

Hon Malone was at the time delivering a speech as part of the national COVID-19 update on December 17, 2020, where he also reminded citizens that the territory’s COVID-19 health measures and entry protocols to date, remains effective at detecting a preventing the spread of the virus.

VI aware of results of ‘lapse’– Hon Malone

“And now us as a people need to continue to do the work that makes this a success. We all have to comply, and we all have to keep our guards up, for ourselves and one another because we have seen and experienced what any type of lapse in procedures and protocols can do,” he reminded.

As of the last COVID-19 update on December 17, 2020, the territory has only 11 active confirmed cases of COVID-19, all imported and detected through the local entry protocols.

Hon Malone further called on citizens to hold each other accountable and report instances of individuals flouting the COVID-19 regulations.

“Our response highly depends on us all doing our part. And I am imploring everyone to call our Royal Virgin Islands Police by dialling 311 to report any suspicious activity of a breach or lapse in the public health measures or entry protocols,” he said.

All you have to do is go on Instagram and Facebook and you will see all not wearing masks, in each other faces, partying, dancing, talking up under each other posing for pics and with all the activities for the season coming up it's only then we would see whether they continue to not take it serious.

I am sick and tired of telling people to wear a mask or they cannot be served. Damn, we have been telling people since the lockdown to wear masks when entering businesses. Your nasty worn sweaty shirt is not a mask. What in the world is wrong with them? They get me sick!!!!!

Everyone ain’t a sheep, wearing a mask isn’t a natural humane thing to do, so you need to ask your self what the hell is wrong with people like yourself and this world that’s promoting this agenda

The vaccines are being rolled out pretty fast. I've already been vaccinated with CDC documentation. There is no current pathway in the BVI protocols for vaccinated individuals. It seems pretty clear that a vaccinated individual should not be tested or quarantined.

On the eastern end of the island in broad day light folks are not adhering to Covid-19 protocols.
At the bars folks are just acting like there's no virus. Folks walking into supermarket without washing hands and the list goes on.
Personels from the Health Department need to pay a visit to the establishments under cover, and unannounced in order to find the culprit of these businesses.

There should be an attendant at the entrance of the door to ensure customers either sanitize or wash their hands. Don’t have to do both
