Health Authority accused of not paying for employee’s surgery
Virgin Islands News Online got a tip from someone who stated that the woman sustained injuries in the histo-technology lab, which she reportedly created. It is said she was the laboratory personnel that prepared human or animal tissue samples for microscopic examination.
According to the information, the alleged incident occurred a few months ago that left her in a critical situation and “requires her to take treatment off island”.
However, it is alleged that Dr. Ronald Georges, acting director, has refused to authorise the money for the injured woman to receive crucial surgery which was scheduled to be performed today, Tuesday November 22, 2011.
But when contacted, Dr. Georges stated he is not aware of such a matter and will have to look into it.
“This is third hand information, because somebody of the alleged individual is giving information to the media,” he said.
What he did explain is that if a staff or patient needed assistance, albeit financial, it will be given within the hospital’s policies. “We would never withhold that...in addition to that I am not at liberty to discuss the medical condition of a patient.”
A number was given to members of the media to contact the alleged victim, who was a bit reluctant to talk at first, but after some persuasion stated that she did not want the exposure.
Furthermore, information reaching this news agency also suggests that the BVIHSA allegedly owed the woman millions and was trying to find a way to pay her, however, Dr. Georges insisted he is not aware of any legal ramification “in a case such as this.”
