Harrigan to Cline: Check yourself!
Hon. Harrigan, the 5th district representative, told supporters that he is not one to respond to pettiness, but had to since Cline was threading on thin ice. According to Harrigan, Cline at a National Democratic Party (NDP) rally last Thursday stated that “he [Harrigan] likes to hang out at the Moorings with him and should go sit down.”
However, Harrigan issued a word of advice to the novice politician.
“Mr. Claude Cine, not fraud Cline, my good pastor, instead of jumping on me, in my humble opinion your time should be better spent ensuring that you are eligible to contest the elections... Be it as it may, it will be one less expense at breakfast,” the 5th district rep. said.
While Harrigan is seeking re-election for a second term, Cline, who returned to the Virgin Islands close to three years, has been aggressively criticising members of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) on their alleged weaknesses.
Sending VI’s budget to the UK“It is true that the UK government has requested to review our budgets; however this process is understandable since we are an dependent overseas territory of the United Kingdom and, as such, they are financially responsible for us,” Hon. Harrigan noted, as this subject has been one of the NDP’s favourites of late on the campaign trail.
Harrigan, an Accountant by profession, explained such requests have also been made to most British Overseas Territories and not only the VI, specifically to ensure that they are aware of the financial status of those that they are contingently liable for.“Like we are contingently liable for some of our statutory bodies, so are they contingently liable for the British Overseas territories. They have a right to review our budgets, as they should, and are simply exercising that right in light of the global economic climate. I must stress to you all, that this has nothing to do with financial mismanagement, as has been portrayed by those campaigning against us,” he added.
