Guyanese woman freed of gun & ammo charges
Police, while on mobile patrol along Admin Drive in Road Town, Tortola during an electricity blackout on November 3, 2021, discovered a loaded black and silver 9mm gun with eight 9 mm rounds of ammunition while searching a black Chevrolet.
At the time, Sommersall was a passenger while David Cummings, a Jamaica national, was the driver.
A search was conducted of Mr Cummings but nothing illegal was found but when the search moved on to the vehicle and he was asked to witness the search, he attempted to flee and had to be restrained with handcuffs.
Sommersell acquitted
Senior Magistrate Christlyn Benjamin today April 23, acquitted Sommersall of the firearm and ammunition charges while upholding a no-case submission by Attorney-at-law Stephen R. Daniels.
Since 2021, defence attorney Daniels has argued that his client, Mrs Sommersall, never used a gun and had no knowledge of the gun in the vehicle when she took the ride on that ill-fated night.
Meanwhile, Attorney at Law Valerie Stephens-Gordon is currently leading Cummings' defence.
