GEORGETOWN, Guyana - Beginning Sunday January 8, 2022, passengers traveling directly or in transit to Guyana from China and the Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong or Macau will now have to produce a negative COVID-19 test upon arrival at local airports, according to a new travel advisory from the Ministry of Health (MOH).

The COVID-19 test – whether PCR or antigen – must be taken no more than two days before departure.

Recovered passengers who tested positive more than ten days before the flight have the option of showing documentation of recovery. This applies for passengers’ ages two years and over.

“The requirement applies to these passengers regardless of nationality and vaccination status. This will also apply7 to persons travelling from the PRC [People Republic of China] via third country transit and to passengers on connecting flights to Guyana,” the advisory stated.

The advisory also stated that airlines and other port of entries must confirm the negative test result or documentation of recovery for all passengers before they board or deny boarding to non-compliant passengers.

The new requirement is a result of rising COVID-19 cases and to decrease chances for entry of a new variant of concern.

It's interesting to see the new travel advisory for passengers coming from China and the Special Administrative Regions. It's a proactive measure given the current situation. It reminds me of the careful approach we take when considering the rice purity test, where we prioritize safety and well-being.
