Thousands of Venezuelans have taken to the streets to protest what they claim is President Nicolas Maduro's fraudulent election victory.

The July 28 presidential elections, where Maduro secured a third six-year term as president, is also facing widespread criticism from various organizations, citing a lack of transparency in the announced results.

The Government of Guyana has joined the international chorus of concern, issuing a statement that emphasized the importance of electoral integrity in a statement which read: "Elections are about people exercising their constitutional right to elect a government of their choice in a free, fair and transparent process," the statement reads. "It behoves all to ensure the integrity of that process through the highest standards of accountability, transparency, and strict adherence to the rule of law, including the rules governing elections, to guarantee respect for the will of the people."

Guyana's government further expressed its support for a thorough examination of the election results, stating, "Guyana therefore, supports the call for a transparent process of verification of the will of the Venezuelan people as exercised on July 28, 2024. The people of Venezuela deserve nothing less."

Meanwhile, Maduro, who claims to have secured a third six-year term as president, has pushed back against the allegations.
