Gutter politics? Electrical box tampered with on eve of Hon Maduro-Caines basketball event
A Committee Spokesperson noted that yesterday, March 5, 2023, when they went to check the grounds, everything was intact; however, today March 6, 2023, on the day of the event, it was observed that the wires were cut and allegedly tampered with.
The Committee to Re-Elect Hon Maduro-Caines has reported the situation to the BVI Recreational Trust, which manages the facilities.
Event must go on @ new venue
Since the event was scheduled to start at 12 noon today, the event has moved to the Multi-purpose Sports Complex and will start at 1:00 PM.
Meanwhile, Executive Director of the Virgin Islands Recreation Trust Eustace C. Freeman aka ‘Boss’ denied that there was sabotage or that anyone may have tampered with the wires.
Mr Freeman noted that someone was sent there to work a few weeks ago but may have not completed the work, but he has already commissioned someone to get it fixed.
Many residents calling and texting our news centre believe it was a deliberate act and sabotage; however, our news site cannot independently confirm that and will wait on a final word from Mr Freeman.
2-man race for Zone 6
Thus far, Hon Maduro-Caines, the Virgin Islands Party candidate and the Junior Minister for Tourism, has one declared opponent in controversial former Minister Myron V. Walwyn, who is running with the National Democratic Party. Mr Walwyn is before the courts after having been arrested and charged for ‘Breach of Trust’ over a wall around the Elmore Stoutt High School costing taxpayers $1.6 Million.
The former Minister said at a press conference last week that “my hands are clean."
Many of his supporters believe he may be a victim of the alleged UK witch-hunt against residents who speak out.

Moreover, if the allegation is actual sabotage, the action is doing sabotage a disservice. The act is 100 orders of magnitude lower than sabotage. Politics is persuading voters that one’s plans, programmes, policiesprocesses are better than those offered by opposing combatants. This type of campaigning if true has no place in BVI politics. The other combatant in the D-6 race needs to come out now and in no uncertain terms condemn this type of behavior. Silence is acceptance and complicity. Supporters follow the lead of political candidates. If the candidate is for issues-based politics, supporters will follow. If the candidate advocates, or is silence about mudslingin supporters will follow. Politics is inherently dirty and needs no additional dirt. Let the campaign be about issues and policies. Voters should not reward mudslinging, lower than gutter politics, etc. May the best man or woman win.
