GUN CREEK, Virgin Gorda, VI- Junior Minister for Trade and Economic Development, Hon Shereen D. Flax-Charles (AL) says the revamped Captain Owen G. Harrigan Visitor Centre in Gun Creek, Virgin Gorda will also cater to billionaire visitors who use the territory as their "playground".

Hon Flax-Charles made the remarks during the re-opening of the port facility on April 12, 2022, when she noted that for decades, the Virgin Islands has been a favored destination for the world’s billionaires.

She added it is a destination where mega and super are the only words to describe the regular yacht visitors.

Gun Greek increases convenience - Hon Flax-Charles

“Now they are able to remain in their playground and have much of their entry requirements and processes facilitated here. Gun Creek continues to increase convenience and maximise leisure for many of our valued guests.”

She said more dialogue will also come about regarding the return of seaplane flights.

“The improved port also means a brand new experience for those in transit between Virgin Gorda and its wealth of premier eateries, resorts, and establishments only accessible by boat.”

Hon Flax-Charles related that in the same area on Virgin Gorda, the VI has seen the introduction of the Bistro at Blunder Bay, the return of Saba Rock, Bitter End and Oil Nut Bay Resort, with many others to follow.

Less waiting tine for locals

“Locals will immediately benefit from a much less uncomfortable waiting experience as well as our guests,” she added.

As such, the minister said the Government is looking forward to the employment and other economic opportunities that will come in the wake of current and other planned developments and redevelopments in the sister islands.

“Let us continue to be minded towards the prosperity of the entire Virgin Islands as we build back better, bolder and brighter."

Hon Flax kindly advise your Health Minister to REVAMP the dump @ pockwood pond

Some simple passes though our sea water for excitement while some of we live here: and for many many years the priority & focus is the so called rich people

I am very mindful that we need income but until now we have not accumulated enough income to improve the conditions for the residents

Pockwood pond continues to be a serious health hazard but I assume we have to take a back seat to the passers by( the ones that comes through to play then depart…..

    Politically Speaking

While you’re at it, have a go at the dump in VG. Visible from the Valley, even when they’re not burning.

Gunn Creek a dump, throw some fresh paint on what’s been a sore thumb for almost 5years and all of a sudden it’s the jewel of VG. Sad sad. Our district rep wants another term to continue the progress made, when did the betterment start? Gunn Creek a pig sty, an embarrassment to we who live here trying to promote a high end tourist product. The road over the mountain littered with potholes from hell only to end in a mud parking lot, the stench of burning garbage to help settle your stomach after all the trouble to enjoy a good meal on the way home, shame shame. Don’t even start on the valley, being greeted by the tenement called VGYH, risking life and limb waking on shoddy sidewalks and listening to bickering child like taxi drivers arguing about who’s next in line to charge $20 to go to the supermarket only to be let down there also, tsk tsk. Hating the rich white man out of one side of your mouth only to love their money out the other seems to be the standard BVI mentality, and you call them racist? Bigoted? Trust me when I say they ain’t coming here to see your friendly two faced smile, they’re coming here to escape their permanent life for a couple weeks of sun and sand and they’ve paid dearly in money and time to do it. Better hope they don’t leave tainted and tell their friends cuz in reality that’s all the BVI has to offer and with the increasing filth and pollution that’s disappearing quickly too. Time to change the mentality before it’s too late.

its funny that the superyacht in the photo graph is the russian oligarch owned " flying fox" recently arrested in Dominican republic. Hope we arent supporting and welcoming that type of clientele here any more.

Wrong, the Flying Fox has not been seized and it's not a matter of public record who owns it.

it has been arrested in santo domingo..i was there when it happened. FBI and local authorities boarded it and it was detained/arrested. still is.
there is a big difference between arrested and siezed.
ownership is public record. cayman company held by dimitry

I have been to the British Isles several times over the years. So iam understanding I can have my guys bring my yacht coming from St. Maarten straight to Gun Creek and clear with the Customs there or do i still have to go Road Harbour? They'll be from Johannesburg and I will fly in from Holland to St. Maarten to meet them. Let me know please.

What did the Russians do to us? We have no dogs in the Russia\\Ukraine conflict its not our fight. I see some locals flying Ukraine flag. Are you aware of the treatment of the African students while trying to leave Ukraine. When you done flying the Ukraine flag go there and you will be called nigger and spit on. What is it gonna take to bring black people out of this spell of darkness. Earth is a melanated planet stop settling for crumbs while strangers run away with everything. Preachers and politicians are scum.

The lady politician from VG is incorrect about large yachts clearing in and out of North Sound VG will financially stimulate the VG economy. The Gun Creek facility is now a port of entry that is convenient for all vessels traveling between the eastern BVI and St. Martin. The crews aboard large yachts cater to their charter guests far better than any restaurant or club could on VG so there is no reason for the crew or guests to spend money ashore. The primary advantage of the North Sound port of entry is that the area is far more picturesque than commercial Road Harbour.

You cant say all is bad. Yes what you said about the catering crew on board these superyachts is true, but most times they ashore go to the local supermarkets and buy over $2000 worth of food per trip and their chefs will prepare meals on the boat for them however depending on their on island trip they will have a brunch at one of the restaurants so no matter how u turn it the local economy still benefits.
